I just wanted everyone to know that my Cat Inky survived a Urinary Tract Infection...and Operation from 3.5 yrs ago.

My first Vet was a Robber (emergency room Vet...held me up for $1200).

2nd Vet was another $1500...an old man...who had been practicing for 30 years (i figured if anyone knows what they are doing...surely this guy does). He tried 3 times to do the operation correctly and botched it. I found out later, he could barely see.

One day i went to visit Ink after his operation and recuperation...and the vet asked to see the chart. He squinted, then looked up and down the chart...and then asked the nurse behind the counter "what does this say?"

I looked at him and wanted to knock right in the head....(might have killed the sob) but i kept my composure and brought my cat home.

A friend of mine, recommended me trying one more time to save Ink...by bringing him to Her Vet.

Apparently, there is scar tissue that builds up in Male Cats after a Urinary Tract infection...and operation. I my cats case...it was both.

Essentially, what this 3rd Vet did was to perform an operation that turned the cat from a male into a female. He cut off his penis...and pulled sewed the skin back so he...is now a she (in simple terms). He could freely urniate...as long as he had bladder control.

Cat is fine...after 3.5yrs.

3rd Vet...who saved him (cost me about $500).

MORAL: Make sure you have a good vet for your animals...and preferably someone who is not TOO OLD to see. Many senior and those who have been in the business...become calused to new techniques...or just too plain lazy or stupid to learn them.

Inky is now 14 yrs old...and i'm happy to have him as company and a friend.

Thanks for the update on your beloved Inky. What a lucky boy he is, to have you working so hard to find the right health care for him.

I'm glad the final PU (perineal urethrostomy) surgery was successful.

For general information, feeding cats an all canned (more species appropriate) diet can help prevent this kind of heath issue from every happening.

Thanks special...i have always feed ink a mixture of both dry and wet food. He won't have any problems urinating now...his tract is open like the nile river. But bladder control is important. If he couldn't control his bladder, then things would be rough.

Yep...i struggled with him for about 2 months between all those vets. No one but the last one knew what they were doing.....AMAZING!

I'll see if i can post a pic of Ink. He's quite a character!

thanks !

What an awful story! I'm so glad Inky is recovering. We had a cat (well, we actually still have him) that used to get chronic urinary tract infections. Thank goodness he doesn't anymore.

Man... that's a lot of money. I hope your wallet recovers as quickly as Inky :)
