Just curious-how rare is it that dogs don't relieve themselves while on a walk? Maggie will sniff and sniff and sniff but in the last 2 months she has maybe gone once while out walking. She will wait and go in our yard when we get back. Could this be just a "girl" thing? Is she marking her territory at home by telling all the other dogs to stay out? I was just wondering. I have had only one other dog (a male Sheltie) and he would go every few feet or so. What is your opinion?

Kelly,

How very strange!! Bullwinkle is the only dog I have ever had that won't go out in public. I just thought he was weird!! Saves me money on Large Ziplock bags though - LOL!

Never Fear MyMaggie, It is fairly common, I have a few friends with dogs that do the same thing. In particular I have a friend with a young female bullmastiff that not only will not refuse to relieve herself outside her own yard but will also refuse to drink.

Sorry I don't know the cause of it though

Cheers

My GSD will not go poo on his walks. He will pee on every blade of grass, but will hold his poo for our back yard. I find it funny because I can tell by the way he is walking that he needs to go. This is when I make a bee-line towards home so the poor thing doesn't suffer!
Our other dog has no problem relieving himself at least once (sometimes twice) during our walks. I make sure to bring enough bags (just in case).

Oh I know I'm lucky. I think she is just too busy sniffing everything and being happy to be on a walk. If I stop to talk with a neighbor Maggie whines and whines to get moving. Thanks for your opinion.

I thought all dogs did their business while out walking, that's why I posted this to see if anyone else was like Maggie. And yes I agree with the saving on bags, but my goodness the stuff I have to clean up in our yard! LOL

I've just never known a dog to do that, especially other dogs in the neighborhood. It seems they always pick our yard! But thanks for you opinion. It is nice to be able to find out what is "normal" or not. LOL

My mom's dog usually pees 10 times during a fifteen minute walk, like she's trying to go where every other dog has gone. That's kind of funny...
Have a great day!

My dog feels the need to poop right in the middle of the road.

LOL 'Too Crazy!!! That is so funny!!! At least you don't have to stand and be embarassed while they go in your neighbor's yard! I just HATE that, even though I always clean up, I feel like they are watching out their windows in outrage that I'm letting my dog go in their yard.

I too feel like neighbors are always watching to see if she goes in their yard. Hopefully Maggie will just stick to sniffing.
