Hi, I have an 8 year old beautiful(of course) kitty who recently has been suffering with either cancer or ibs. We brought her to the vet when we noticed she was severely losing weight. She's an outdoor/indoor cat, and was down to 6 lbs. 8 oz.; one vet gave her a shot of prednisone and sent us home. She seemed to be getting better after 1 month, but then regressed to her severe
anemic state. We took her to a second vet who took x-rays and noticed her stomach was distended. This vet put her on a diet of IVD moist venison/green peas and duck/green peas, as well as several medications including prednisone.
We think she's gained some weight, but lately, she also seems to be bulimic, if that's possible. Our new vet wanted to do a biopsy to determine whether kitty had cancer or ibs for sure. The biopsy is $500 which, at this time, is not an option for us do to financial reasons. Either way, (cancer or ibs), kitty would
still be receiving the same medications, so we figure why bother to spend the $500?

Does anyone have any other suggestions as to what we can do to prevent her vomiting? It used to be a few times a week, but now we notice it's more like every day. HELP!!!!

Hi suzieq, welcome to the board. I'm really sorry to hear about your kitty. What kind of cancer does you vet think your cat possibly has? I had a cat who had stomach cancer. She threw up alot and lost weight. Her vomit was brown and had what appeared to be coffee grounds in it. This is a sign of stomach cancer. Cats are not bulimic, so there is something else going on. Could the cat possibly eaten something and it's in her stomach? I never needed a biopsy for my cat as you could see a white shaded area on the xray, which was the cancer. I think with IBS there is more of a diareaah problem with some vomiting. Correct me if I'm wrong somebody. Keep us posted and I'm sending prayers to you and your kitty.
