well i for one am going to continue to use this site for advice and information about my african grey, victor. i rarely have questions about my dogs that i can't figure out myself or with our vet.
any ideas on home-made toys for parrots? victor makes short order of every toilet paper and paper towel roll we can come up with. as i live in egypt, all those neat bird toys you can buy are just not available here.
a big milestone morning here. up until now. victor has spoken only his small repetoire of arabic phrases he had from his former home. this morning when i let the dogs in he told isabelle in no uncertain terms to 'go lay down'!

I'm glad you're staying with us, and I'm sure Victor is too. :) He sounds like a marvelous bird.
What kind of rope can you get? It would have to be thick enough to support Victor's feet. Also, what kind of toys are available for babies? They could probably be modified. Look for things with bells.
Please check out Dexter's place here for ideas! -That would be under retret who is A-mazing!
All the best!

uummm, let me see you are in Egypt..I would say make something out of palm trees...search for "Doom Palm" they make the fiber for ropes and baskets..
if you have eucalyptis trees it is a free parrot toy and what they chew on in the wild, wash them but don't cut off the leaves since that is the parrots favorite part, pruning the tree limb.

One toy i make that is a big hit with my Grey that plucks is to get several different weights of cord, sisal, rope, etc and make various size pom poms with them. They really like the different textures - you can even add some fabric strips (cut on the bias)for even more texture and alittle color. make smallish ones and then tie them together in a row or make big ones and tie from the top or side of the cage. My Cag Riki cuddles up to the one on the side of his cage at night to sleep! if you have some pony beads etc, you can put some on the smaller cords, -
Something else to look into might be dried gourds that have been dried and cleaned - the peices are very hard. - coconut makes very good toys and huts. just take the peices, drill a hole and hang them up. let us know how it goes ok?

I do a search for "parrot toys" and alot of sites will pop up where they show you the toys, and a price. Alot of times they tell you what they're made of and how long the rope is etc. and you can make them yourself. I also go to garage sales and find things and usse they're ideas but improvise with the toys I have. I went to beaktweets.com yesterday and found quite a few things to make. Another one was birdsjustwannahavefun.com
