We've all been switched to PetLovers and I feel like Perky in a new home. Actually, I don't think Perky minds one bit that she's been moved around to a new place to live with me.

I had just become a Squawker but now I'm a Chatter. Okay.

*chuckle* I'll be doing more re-organizing and expanding over the weekend and next week. It will take a little bit of time but this something we felt needed to be done... and quickly!

I miss it too. I'm not a squaker any more either. It's very sad.:(

Mr. PetLover, why did it need to be changed? Just curious. =)

yeah, why did it need to be changed, us parrot owners don't feel special anymore, do we really need to talk to all other pet owners besides parrot owners? i don't like the new change.

The forum had only been occupying that domain for 2 or 3 months. Overally... Sorry folks if you're unhappy with it; You'll just have to accept that it was something we needed to do. ;-)

what do you mean it had only been occupying that domain for 2 or 3 months?....can it not occupy it longer?....weren't you the one who was saying that parrot.com was a great website because it would be one of the 1st a parrot lover would go to? i still don't understand why it had to be done. could you explain it in small, non-computer related terms please?

The "Parrot.Com" forums were only setup in April 2003. Just 2 or 3 months ago. When I set that up I honestly wasn't very sure what to expect. What happened was a lot of people showed up and started chatting. There was nothing to make you all get along, we did very little moderation of the forum.

Well, before getting to involved with running an online community like that, or this, I didn't/don't want to be limited to just one species of one animal. Already I had seen there are people with many different types of pets.

So now, this is a domain name that is open to all people who love pets.

Since the change just a few hours ago, people are already opening up and discussing their other animals. While not everyone from the pre-existing forum has other types pets, some do and more people with varying type of pets will arrive. This site, with this name, will also be able to get exposure from more sources online. This also means we'll have more bird people showing up.

In fact, this name actually brings in more traffic and offers those who visit the possibilty of providing a WARM ATMOSPHERE to not just Parrot owners, but that of other bird species. Not too mention dogs, cats and more.

I, for one, don't think that anyone who loves their pet is goind to be a bad person or unfriendly. Also, I don't think someone looking for other PETLOVERS is going to be a bad person.

So, the change is simple: We are broadening our horizon and bringing more people together. I can't explain it any other way than that and that's not at all computer related.

I'm pretty sure you love your birds; they are your pets - You are a petlover; now you're just a petlover on PetLovers.Com. IMHO, this change is only non-positive if you make it that way.

Hope that helps.

Welcome Squawkes,

We've never trashed anyone and I hope we never start.

I have decided that I will stay. I just have to get used to it. Sorry. Last night I had just gotten through babysitting and it was late.

Welcome Squawkes.

You said this board needed no moderation because we all get along. Why mess with a good thing? I just left a board that was for parrots only and the people were nasty. Even the guy who started the board (in May) is fed up with the nastiness. I like the "family" atmosphere with the parrots only. I'm still staying too, but I just wanted to add my 2 cents for whatever it's worth.

I wish that we could have something like in the bird section it could be divded like it used to be. Or those sections like question and answer/ recipies/ general disscussion and health chat could be subdived into all different creatures.

i guess i was over reacting last night...punching my pillow and crying myself to sleep is not what most people do when a website is updated. i hope i get over it and come back to visit sometime, but at the moment, i think i better stay away for a while to make sure i don't say someting way too offensive. i'm not good at change and i hope you all love the new site. as for me, i'm off to try and find a new one. i'll let you know if a find a good one. i luv you guys....thanks for everything!

Why mess with a good thing?

Amongst the other reasons I listed? I don't own a bird myself, but I do love my pets! So, this "updated" forum is more open to people like me.

... And since I run this forum for free... it seems like I should be able to get involved a little with it myself more than I have been able to in the past and share in the fun you all are having. Just a little of it maybe? ? ? ;-)

I've just re-arranged and created specific forums for each animal type; listing the animals alphabetically even puts "Birds" at the top. But now there's a lot more space to be filled...........

I didn't mean to offend you. I posted somewhere else that people can talk to other people about cats, dogs, etc. but you can't sit down with just anyone and talk about your rescued or feather picked birds. Here it was nice because the people are very friendly and helpful. I think you have to have a bird to know what I'm talking about. Since you don't have one, I think we should all get you one so you will become parrot nuts like the rest of us! :0) Anyway, I'm not against other pets being here...in fact I posted on cats and still have to post on dogs... but it was just really nice having a parrot board by itself. It's not something you see alot of. And don't be to sure that if someone loves pets they can't be all bad. If you want, I will private message you the name of the board I quit because the people were nasty. I will even tell you the name of the guy who started it and you can talk to him. He was so fed up that he shut down the private messages
for a week hoping some of it would stop. In my case, it was wonderful to come here and ask questions without being treated like it was a stupid question and I shouldn't own a bird. And I do agree, you should be able to get on your board and talk about your animals. I think along with your cats, you should get a parrot! You and Mrs. Petlover should adopt one today!! Anyway, I hope you accept my apology. I, and I think some of the others, just thought you had a great thing going and maybe we're just afraid of the change.

Mr. PetLover: Please understand that Parrot "People" are a unique group in general because having a Parrot is a lot more different than owning or caring for dogs, cats, reptiles, fish, etc. and we understand each others' language.

I hope our "parrot gang" can continue to stick together.

WOW! listen to us (me included!) you'd think we were paying a fortune for the privalege of talking about our FIDS and were not 'brought into the LOOP'! We must all have Congo African Grey spirits,huh.... Perhaps we should work on our inability to be gracious and accept the gift we have been given here.
:: shepishly grinning and averting eyes:: I am sure it will work out just fine.
