This is Canela (which means cinnamon in another language)... she's Babe's daughter. Babe is the purebred Rottie we agreed to foster and when the rescue found out she was 10 yrs old... we figured it was highly doubtful she would find a home, so she is now a part of our family. Canela was adopted out with the help of our rescue 3 yrs ago. Babe was a stray and had 12 puppies on this elderly mans doorstep (Canela was one of them)... he found homes for most the puppies, then called our dog rescue and asked for help to place the rest. He kept Babe, but do to severe health problems, the family surrendered Babe to the rescue. Canela's owners fell on hard times and recently had to move into a one bedroom apt that doesn't allow pets. With many tears, they surrendered Canela back to the rescue and we are now fostering her until she can find a forever, loving home. We believe she is a Rott/Retriever/Shepherd mix. She's much bigger that Babe and has a wonderful disposition and personality. She did have a problem with Babe and would growl/show teeth at Babe, we're guessing she's an Alpha.... she's fine with our other two males. She is starting to calm down and not growling at "mom" as much. Babe always wants to be close to Canela when she's in her crate... I really think Babe knows this is her daughter. We've had Canela for a week now and has bonded with my daughter.

This is Babe.. the only resemblance I see between them is in the eyes... Canela must take after her traveling salesman dad :D
Great pics.. Babe looks very calm and uh... regal.

I wouldn't be able to foster an animal let alone a child and then have to let them go. :( I commend people who can do that!
Great pictures of Canela and Babe! At one time I had a dog named Babe.

Canela is huge --- poor Babe having that many puppies at once! Wonder how much each puppy weighed at birth? Canela doesn't look like Babe in the least -- if you didn't know it you would never think she was a puppy of Babe's. Glad to hear that she isn't growling so much at mom anymore!

OH Squawks, she is beautiful. I bet her heart broke to have lost her family, but she was very lucky to run into you again. Great job for taking her back into the fold, and looking for the forever family this beautiful girl deserves. I bet your daughter is in heaven with this girl, she looks huge!

Thanks guys ;)
Canela is doing good now.... she started to act depressed after about the 3rd day... guess she was missing her family and didnt quite know what was going on... we had a tough time to even get her out of her crate, if we left the crate door open she'd go right back in it and lay down. She's very kicked back and mello. She doesn't growl at Babe anymore, but I'm still waiting a little while before I turn them loose together. She's totally house trained, crate trained and gets along great with my cats, has no interest in the birds and LOVES kids. She's also getting very attached to my daughter. They play, take walks together and lay in bed watching TV. Now that Leslie is back in school, Ill be spending more time with her. She is soooooo sweet and definately has moms temperment. I was kinda hoping the previous owners would've called by now to check on her.. I gave them my phone number and told them they could call or come by to visit anytime they wanted... no word from them.
Wanda~ its not easy when the fosters go... but I have to always remember there are so many more out there that need that second chance for a life they so deserve. If I dont let them go, I cant foster and could mean one more gets sent to the euthanasia chamber.
Diane~ I dont know how much the puppies weighed at birth, I didnt get to see them.. Im sure they didnt weigh much with 12 of them!.
Newfi~ yup.. my daughter loves her... but then, what dog doesn't she love LMBO!!!. She really enjoys fostering and understands why they cant all stay.. doesn't mean she dont try to keep them all!.
KC~ her ears are soft... but one was chewed up by flies and has no hair on the back of it....that tells me she was mostly an outside dog, but Im sure she's been in the house because she's a great housedog... has great manners.
Keep your fingers crossed we find a forever loving home for her soon ;)

Canela was adopted today!!! wooohoooo!!! .. first adoption day out since we got her :D
There were alot of people that fell in love with her. I was off doing something and when I returned, there was a woman that wanted to ask me questions about her. She said she has a male Dane/Rottie mix(house dog) at home that was very loving/submissive and they've been talking about adding another fur-kid to the family.... So after answering her questions she went outside to call her hubby on the cell phone.... then came back after a little while and said they want her. I asked if hubby was going to come and look at her first, she said her hubby is on the coast at their "beach house" and they are going there tonight to meet up with hubby and play on the beach for a few days. The German Shepherd Rescue was also at Petsmart today... they hold their adoptions out in front of the store every 1st saturday of each month. She laughed and told me she called hubby to tell him about the German Shepherds and he told her to put blinders on and walk right by them... and to NOT adopt one... then she went inside and found our rescue... she immediately fell in love with Canela. They also have a teen son and teen daughter... sooooo... Canela is out playing on the beach with her new family as we speak!. Both Leslie and I had mixed emotions when she left after the home check... we are so happy about her new home and family... but will miss her so much. Its so bittersweet.
AND.. we have a new foster LOL. Today a woman brought in a 7 yr old female Border Collie and surrendered her. She's had her since she was a puppy.. bought her from a breeder in Texas. They have a ranch and "Bonnie" didnt like to work... she played in the water and with toys too much. They tried to breed her and that didnt work.. so they spayed her and now she's with us. The down side to this is we are in Border Collie country.. they are a dime a dozen here... so its going to be tough to find her a new home.. especially because she's older :( ... but we wont give up!!. She's beautiful with a great temperment. The rescue didnt have the room.. and wouldn't have been able to take her if I wasn't able to foster... it just never stops.

Hey Krystle... Bonnie LOVES water!. Leslie took her in the backyard after her tour of the house and she went to the edge of the pool.. started pawing at the water and fell in  . It was in the deep end and Leslie said she started to go under, so Leslie jumped in... fully clothed to get her. I had a couple of drowned rats!. I guess we need to really keep an eye on her when she's in the backyard. We gave her a bath with some good shampoo since she was soaking wet already to try to get rid of the flakey, dry skin. She woundnt stay still and kept trying to bite the water coming out of the hose LOL. She's a riot. We'll be working on the potty training right away... she's a very smart girl and is doing great so far!. :)

Well I'm glad to hear Canela went to a good home. I bet that was bittersweet being she was Babe's daughter. Since Border Collie's are a dime a dozen there, can we safely assume you have another dog? Who wants to place bets that Jan is keeping her new foster? :D
