I was just wondering if cats get ear wax. My cat David ears look he has a combination of ear wax and ear mites and I want to do something about this right away.

He's been deaf for quite some time and if it is ear wax causing this I'd sure like to get it all out. Just MAYBE he might hear again and I'm sure he'd like that just as much as I would. I love to talk to my "Son".

I'm going to Petco and Petsmart today to get some GOOD food for him and some Cat Milk to try and fatten this critter up.

He's doing much better since his grooming trip, and he is taking some pride in himself. I've noticed him washing and grooming himself several times in the past day or two and he hasn't done that in quite some time... (The scrounge) LOL

Last night he insisted to sleep with me and I was quite agreeable to that idea. That's something he hasn't done in quite some time so it was a pleasant experience. Normally I would refuse to sleep with another male, but for him I'd make the exception.

He looks a little weird with so much of his hair cut off but that was needed to get him cleaned up. He has a rather long tail and all but the last two inches is pretty well shaved off. The two inch tip of the tail still has a fair amount of hair on it. Looks like a Tiger tail to me, so I've given him the knickname of "Tiger".

cats most definitely get ear wax.. i've never heard of a build up thick enough to cause deafness, but i suppose anything's possible.

if the congestion in the cat's ears is that bad, please take him to a vet to have that treated! doing it yourself risks more build up being accidentally pushed further into the ear cannal.

Ear wax is yellow to brown. If it is ear mites, it will be very dark brown discharge in the ear that will return rather quickly when wiped clean. Ear wax will not return as quickly. If he has been shaking his head or scratching the ears, it is most likely mites.

Your kitty has been through quite a bit recently. Perhaps a once over by the vet would do him some good. It's not expensive to treat mites.

Could also be a yeast infection, which would require a vet visit to diagnose. I agree with everyone above - a vet visit is in order.

Good luck!

I agree with the comments that David should got to a vet for a good checkup.

I think he has a combination of ear wax and mites and the vet is better qualified then I to take care of this. He hasn't been shaking his head or scratching his ears but still I don't like the looks of his ears.

I'm very pleased with his progress in the past 48 hours since his trip to the groomers. He's been eating like a pig and is more active. He sleeps a heck of a lot and I think that's pretty normal for a cat his age. He's also keeping himself real clean.

As soon as I get my next SS check off he goes to the Vet!!!!
