a few weeks ago we went on vacation and i forgot to clean out one of the litter boxes before we left. (don't worry we took the cats with us) when i got back and took the lid off the litter box there were a bunch of little bugs crawling around...the looked like little fruit flies, but were crawling.

well obviously i disposed of all the contents of the litter box, but since then i still find those little bugs around just my one cat and have found one on me. i only see one here and there, but it still bothers me.

i haven't been able to figure out what they are or if they will hurt my cat. he isn't acting any different and isn't scratching at all.

has anyone had this happen? know how to get rid of them?

Almost sounds like nats. Have you replaced the bag of litter and food? Is the litterbox near a window where they could be getting in? Do you have a fly problem, meaning do you live in a rural area like farm country?

i thought they looked like nats too, but i've never seen them around a litter box before. i ended up throwing out that litter/box altogether in case there were any eggs in there. it was near a slider window, but that was rarely open...we lived in a condo in town, so no farms. :)
