Hi All,
I was wondering when a Goffin becomes mature enough to lay eggs. Our Goffin is eating and eating and eating. It reminds me of the time Tweety ate and ate and then laid eggs. So, does anyone have any idea how old a Goffin would have to be to lay eggs.

No, this has been going on for a few weeks. I would say since I switched her over to pellets - she absolutely loves them. Maybe coinsidently - there is more then one thing happening here....

Her new cage has a swing out hatch that holds her food bowl....on Sunday I was not fast enough putting in food and closing the hatch - she reaches out with her beak and pulls the door shut. in order to get at food faster.

Pellets is the first thing that I have ever seen her eat with Gusto!
She had been on a diet of mostly seed..........as I was so discouraged that everything I offered her she rejected - that I am ashamed to say that I just gave up after a while.

I am using Harrisons pellets - but have started to offer fruit, veggies, scrambled eggs & veggies, blueberry pancakes (leftovers). Ideally, I would like to use the pellets in the morning and fresh food in the evening when I have more time.

Do you give your birds something that they can eat during the night if they should get hungry?

Angel was acting very sedate last night and not seeming to want to come out of her cage. Seemed as if she was resting up.

Hmmm...that'll be interesting if she does lay eggs. I don't give my birds anythign to eat at night besides what's left of the pellets from earlier. What cage did you end up getting for Angel? One of the Feather Farm ones? With the cage I bought Mortie from there, he does the same thing with the swing-out food bowls! It's hilarious. When I start pouring the food in from the outside when he's inside, he'll reach with his beak, grab it, and pull it inside the cage to start eating! I always get a good laugh from that. Also when I try shutting his cage and he doesn't want to be in it, he'll grab the door with his beak and push as hard as he can on it to keep it open!

Well, the Harrison's is the Adult Formula. She had been picky on the seed for a while - I thought she was not hungry because there was always untouched seed in bowl at night when I cleaned up her cage.

I was ready for a battle - I would give her the pellets - she'd refuse to eat and so on and so on. Laugh was on me - as soon as I put those pellets in the cage she began eating as if there is no tomorrow. Angel will go down to the grate and pull newspaper thru if her bowl is empty - she trys to get at remaining pieces on bottom of cage.

Last night she had blueberry pancake for dinner - she couldn't pull that cage door closed fast enough! LOL It was good to see some spirit in her.

Thanks for that recipe - I will try that in morning. I was always worried to leave something like eggs or something because it would spoil before I could get to it.

I think the plucking is improving. Her one wing (underside) looks like it is healed and doing well. The other wing still shows some dryness where she had chewed on it - but I think it may be improving. I was even able to hold her last night without her plucking - the vet suggested that maybe somehow I had ingrained the habit in her (?) Who knows! There a few feathers on her crop area - but it is still mostly bare.

Casegura,
As you said - give Angel a while and she would calm down in her eating - well she is slowing down and enjoying the pellets, but not eating non-stop now. This morning her crop area seemed to have even more feathers on it - I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Good luck Diane. I hope Angel comes along well and will soon be showing all her beautiful feathers.

Yes, I've heard that Harrison's pellets are really good. Unfortunately, I can't get them here. I could order them online but the shipping cost (and tax + duty at the customs) will make it really expensive. :(
