Clumping Clay Litter!!!!!!!!

:mad: Clumping clay litter is hazardous to animals! It has killed many cats and kittens! They ingest it when they clean their paws and fur. It blocks up their intestines and can keep them from absorbing nutrients! :mad: I got this info on the web. I didnt know and have been using them for years. I found Swheat Scoop clumping litter (made from wheat, is safer) at Petsmart. It works great and never had to slowly get them use to it, just did it all at once, no problem.

This is a myth. I did a lot of research on the topic when my puppies decided they were litter box divers. The folks that promote this myth are those that sell other types of litter. You will find websites out there that claim this is true, but if you really look long and hard, you will be hard pressed to find a single documented proven case of this happening.

The greatest concern is for small kittens, as they tend to eat everything and their digestive systems are small. The most comprehensive advice that I've read on kittens is to avoid clumping litter until they are about 6 months old and only to be on the safe side.

i wondered about that too....i don't think it will kill them either...however.. my dog got into the little box once or twice and it made him constipated for a day or so. :o

I had probably read the same thing and I stand by it. My Cozmo had been sick for years, I spent probably a $1000.00 or more over the fast few years at the vet, trying to figure out what was wrong with his, every blood test possible was done all physical exams done, ect... to no avail what had been ailing my poor Cozmo, this went on and on, he'd be sick for a couple of days then he'd be ok. I was desperate, reading and reading, then I came upon this article and decided it couldn't hurt, I was of course skeptical, but like I said I was desperate. So I started out buying the corn made one, it mixed it with his regular cat litter for about 3 weeks, as he's very picky, after that it was straight corn after about 3 weeks on the corn only litter, I noticed he wasn't hadn't been sick in about 2 weeks. Well that was back in Feb this year and he has not been sick since. I don't think it was mere coincidence. So I am going to have to say I believe it is true, maybe not for all cats, who knows, but it sure was the solution for my cat. It also has a plus of being able to just be flused down the toilet. Oh, I almost forgot about Fat Cat, he used to gt these itchy little bumps around his next once in awhile, which I had to get meds for that as well, do you know how hard it is to get a liquid med onto the skin of a cat with fur like a persian? ugh. Well his problems has gone away as well. I'm no spokes person by any means for any company, but I do like to tell my story about this subject, because it worked for my babies and I hope it will work for others, that were desperate as I was to find out what is ailing their babies.

The myth is about causing deaths in many cats and dogs. I don't disagree that if ingested in large quantities it will make them sick, including constipation and/or diarreha. Both of my puppies get the runs when they litter box dive, and it is no doubt due to the clumping litter. You do need to be cautious with it, but not so paranoid that you are afraid to use it.

If it causes my animals to become sick, why would I not be paranoid? Why would I ever buy it again? Cats don't eat it like dogs do, but they ingest it by cleaning themselves, from the dust kicked up and some that they get on their paws, when they bury their #1's and #2's, that's something that they can't avoid doing. I really don't know what the big deal is about using a natural liter, why not? What is it hurting? Or should I say what is it not hurting? It's not hurting my babies, but the other stuff sure did. If your babies got sick from it, cat or dog, why wouldn't you change it, if there was even a doubt? Like I said I was skeptikal about it, but i'm also an optimistic person, and said what the hay, tried it and now my cat isn't sick anymore. I like friendly conversations like this, unlike some of the other one's recently, did you see those? wow some heavy stuff there.

Yes vomiting was the major problem, every other day it seemed like, I got so tired of trying to scub my carpet every other day, we now only have carpet in 1 room, now we have wood floors, but now we don't have a sick kitty anymore, no more carpet cleaning anyways, but that's ok, it's better on my allergies, lord knows i'm allergic to just about everything under the sun.
