Hi everyone,
Our pet budgie Fluke is 14 months old, last sunday he unexpectedly flew into a closed door, we found him at the bottom of the stairs staring into the corner he would not react to any of us seeming to be in a state of shock. Appearing to be no better the next day we took him to the local vet, after examining fluke he told us there was no serious physical damage and gave fluke an injection telling us he would be his old self in about 48 hours. 48 hours later fluke is not his old self, in fact, he has not flown nor made a single sound since his accident. He is a little more active and is eating but nothing like the vibrant little bird he was. Can anyone advise please?
regards John and family.

i would be worried too. i wish i could help more but dont know how. how was he examined by your vet? could there be fractures of some kind (bones or beak) - was he x-rayed? from what i understand, birds typically do not show that they are not ok until there is something seriously wrong. if he is still not his old self after a few days, he might still be in pain... maybe get a 2nd opinion from another vet?

Hi John and family and welcome :)
I would just keep a close eye on him.. if he's getting a little more active and eating, its a good sign. Our Scarlet Macaw clumsily fell to the floor last year, beak first and it started bleeding pretty good... we rushed him to the vet and he was ok... but it took a few days for him to act his normal, fiesty self. This incident may have really scared your little guy and possibly was in shock... they tend to take things very slowly anyways.. so give him a little time to get back to his happy self. Good luck.. we're so happy you joined us :D .

hi lianatch and squawksx3
thank you both for your concern. its nearly a week since flukey's accident and i'm afraid theres very little improvement, he still won't, or can't fly and he still hasn't made a sound. we will be returning to the vet on monday when i will ask for an x-ray. in the meantime, if any of the site users can give advice we would be extremely grateful.

My advice would be just to keep him eating and drinking and put a heating pad under his cage to keep him warm. I hope he's okay.

i agree - keep him warm (with a lamp or indirect heat from a heating pad) and make sure he eats and drinks. going back to the vet is a good idea. hope he gets better soon.
