Hey-

I adopted a cockatiel, and he is 13 years old now. How long do they usually live? I know he must be getting old, but I need a general idea. Thanks!!

The lifespan of 'tiels really varies depending on many things. I've heard of some who only have lived a few years, and then I heard of one who lived nearly 30! The average though is around 15, I think. But, it depends on what kind of care they receive.

Yes, I have heard the same thing. The average is 15-20, but some can live to 30 yrs. with the proper care and nutrition. Also, allowing the bird a lot of exercise will increase it's lifespan.

Good luck

If they don't get a healthy diet and lots of attention, then it will only be 10-15 years. If they receive the proper care they can get to be as old as 35 years old. 35 is the oldest I have ever heard of a tiel being.

It is unusual, but I knew one that lived to 35.
