Hello, I'm not very exprienced with birds, but I have a small lovebird that usually lays eggs every few months, she doesnt have a mate so they arent fertal, we end up taking them out of her cage after a few days, But we also have two parakeets we thought they were both females but one turns out to be a male, I had them longer than the lovebird and they never layed an egg, the last few months they started getting very terrortoral, and then the female lays 2 eggs, we left them there for awhile, see if anything happens, after awhile they got bored with it and she broke one of the eggs, we took that one out, and left the other, she broke that one too a few days after.

Now the past few days she has been laying eggs two so far, and now she sits on them never before has she done this, we took the a week ago to get their wings clipped, we asked the vet if he could tell us the sex of the birds, he told us one was male the other female, one of the birds also took the paper on the bottom of her cage with her feet and ripped it up and made a nest out of it, so we decide mabey this time she might have babies, if she does, i nned to know what to do, take them to the vet or what? Thanks!

Paul.

Well Paul...my guess right now would be to leave them alone and see what happens. I would be afraid to move them for fear she would not reclaim them. But the downfall there would be the mess that would build up around her. Maybe you could attatch a nest box with shredded papers in it and gently move them over. That would be my 2 options if it were me but lets hope someone can tell you a better way to go about it. I have a pair of cockatiels and they don't care where they lay but it seems once they have a nest box everything goes as mother nature planned. Good luck!

Thanks, and another question, if they do hatch, how do they get fed?

When your eggs hatch...(providing they are fertile) the momma and daddy birds will feed them untill the baby leaves the nest. They do this by eating a large amount of the bird feed...then they grind it up..and regurgitate it back into the babies mouths. Most of the time everythings goes smooth. If I were you I would go through the internet and find out all you can about this subject.
Another thing here...do you know that it is a possability that you have 2 females? Once in awhile when 2 females are kept together one of them will assume the role as the dominater (the male role) and the female will lay eggs...the difference here being (of course)that the eggs are never fertile but they will go through the motions untill they tire of it. This is just a thought that I felt you should know.

yeah, we were trying to figure that part out, we asked the vet a few years back if she was male/female, telling by the color of their nose/beek, they said femail, the other we don't know he/she has a blue colored nose/beek, (at the top), the female is brown,
