I've had a chance to meet Lucky and sometimes I don't know what people are thinking.

why do they think the horse has monday morning disease. MMD also know as Azotoria, also known as tying up, unless pony club has taught me wrong, is caused by eating too much grain when the horse is inactive, then putting them into hard labor. this was very common amoung draft horses in the earlies. when hard labor was depended on horses. they were worked hard all week, given sunday off-but still fed the same amount, then put back into hard labor. the horses muscles would tense up, like a charlie horse (may very well be where we get that name). and the horse cant walk.

starved horses by common sense cant really have MMD. you need to eat alot of food and its apparent this poor guy hasnt.

i know thats not the point of the photo but there really are some sicko's out there. sadly alot of them are involved in the horse industry.

heres a fun one:

a woman i know and dont trust, rescues and rehabs horses. she uses a photo of a beautiful chestnut to get donations. in the pic, the horse, Cody, apparently has bruises all over his body. she said he was beaten severely with a baseball bat. i work with photography, graphics and digital cameras. to the untrained eye the photo looks like abuse. all i saw was an computer altered digital photo--no crisp lines, things didnt line up right..etc-even the bruises seemed to be on top of the horse, not on him. this same woman, offered me a paint horse in exchange for askim. when i turned her down, she said my 24 yr old horse was swaybacked because i was too heavy for him. he's swaybacked because hes 24 years old.
any way, the woman has been kicked out of numerous barns for one reason or another, refused to call a vet to look at the lameness in the horse (heidi) my friend was interested in adopting, and to top that all off.. shes wanted by police for questioning in the theft of not only Heidi, but 2 other horses and thousands of dollars worth of tack and equipment.

there are some people who are really trying to make a difference. then there are people like this woman..who may actually be doing more harm than good.

leave horseownership to the people who want to own them for love and appreciation. not for status.

I'm reallyglad you explained the disease. I'm not *real* familiar with horses and had no clue what it was.

It does irk me about some *rescues*.

One of my examples is minor, I guess, but I worked with a dog our shelter got in. At the point the sheltie came into the shelter from animal control as a stray I was dealing with my senior diabetic dog, a newly adopted severely abused dog and a foster that was burned in a house fire. I had my hands full, but the sheltie struck my interest because she was young, beautiful and very anti social.

I had to beg and plead and bend over backwards to get the sheltie into breed rescue. The lady had every excuse in the world not to come get the dog, so I ended up fostering her until the rescue was able to pick her up.

In the meantime I took a picture of the dog and emailed it to the lady.

Low and behold - the freaking rescue took my picture and claimed that it was taken the day the dog came into their rescue after they had saved it form a PUPPY MILL. They had, for the longest time, a lot of info about mills under her picture and she was a huge "feature".

The only thing I could figure out was the people wanted to add interest to their rescue and what they do, but the flat out lied about the dogs' history. I had a friend e-mail them about her, as I couldnt since they knew my name and email address, and she was given a huge story about her rescue from a mill.

All did end well since the dog got into rescue and did end up being adopted, but still - it really maddens me when rescues dare to down other facilities (some do, not all - this rescue has in the past) but then they lie and dont give credit to shelters for doing what they do, and for going out of their way to do so.

I never look for congratulations for myself. In my heart I know I do good, but the rescue took all credit for saving the dog, embelished on it's history, and while they could have made note of the shelter involved in the dogs placement - we were left in the dust.

Some actions really make me heartsick, especially when people do just for their own personal pleasure and gratification.

Oh that poor baby :( . He definately doesn't look foundered to me  . How long had he been under a vets care?. looks like this poor guy has been sick for quite awhile... I cant believe the animal shelter/sheriff wouldn't get involved.. well , yes I can... but how could people have let him get this bad? ...looks like he doesn't have the strength to even keep his head up!. Sending lots of prayers he gets the help he needs.

I read somthing once in a comic it said,"Animals are so great, they will love you when no one else will...........I wonder why god let people rule the earth?" Things like this make me wonder the same thing.
