Hey guys and gals of the most informed. I have a 6 month old Tahltan Beardog, who...for the first time seemed sick. He would not eat, and was not his usual...bouncing across the air, speeding around the house, happy go lucky guy he usualy is. As far as i know, we never saw him eat anything out of the ordinary, and we cannot say for sure that he did/ or did not eat some sort of plant on our usual walk. His symtoms were that he: threw up on the couch. He had a hard 'poop' that was imediatly followed by a '****' load of diarihia. He was very subdued...my question is that....because i am a new dog owner, how do you know when it is serious enough to take to the vet, or if we are being over protective parents? I mean, i don't even know why he was sick, which makes me feel helpless!
any words of wisdome would be appreciated.

if your dog isn't eating, is puking, and having irregular bowel movements like that its a good sign you should take him to the vet.
its not being over proctective to make sure he's in good health, My mom has been to the vet with her catahoula countless times because she's had diarrhea, puking, lost weight, lost appetite, and countless other things many people would over look and it turns out the dog's pancreas doesn't work and she wasn't digesting her food at all, on top of her hip displaysia and I'm pretty sure she had a stomach virus too. She's had the dog three months.
not everything is that extreme, that poor dog has some life long issues, but, its never a bad thing to have your dog checked out with symptoms like that, a vet visit for me is $35, thats $35 of peace of mind I'd rather have spent, than had something bad happen. Vets aren't for emergencies only, they're for maintaining and monitoring your dogs health, never be afraid to at least call them, if nothing else they'll offer you at home solutions if its not serious.
and btw, love the puppy, he's a cutie!
