Well I got a question my dog got loose the other day and when i finally caught him i noticed that he was bleeding from his paws ..... It seems he sliced away a good portion of the kalas's (not sure how to spell it .. but yeah that thicker then normal skin under his paw) on both feet. I contemplated on taking him to the vet but bleeding wasn't very bad and it is seeming to stop. My question is Should i take him to the vet for some antibiotic or will he be ok if i constantly use peroxide to clean the wound out ?

Of course you should take him to the vet!! Who knows what he cut himself on. You are right to clean the wounds, but they will be able to bandage them and give him more medical attention if it is necessary.

I dont understand why people always ask if they should take their animals to the vet when they are clearly ailing in some way. I dont know if its the money or what, but please - if your animal is injured, he should be seen by a doctor.

Paw pads take a very long time to heal, and can be very painful. He probably needs to have the foot bandaged until the callus grows back.

Fortunantly the vet is never far away to call, and in an instance like this you have access to information online - and to forums with people who have experienced the same thing!

Here's somthing I've used before and have found to be true:

* Paw Treatment:
A home remedy for treating paw pad and other wounds: mix iodine and water to the point at which it looks like tea. Add some Epsom salt to clean out the wound and bandage it with gauze. You can also apply Bag Balm to help chaffed and injured paws heal. Put on a dog bootie or small sock to protect injured paw pads.
