My Dog wont Poop.

I went last saturday and rescued a chow/german shepherd mix and he is sweet as can be and a picky eater. But i have yet to see him poop. im worried something could be wrong with him. Could he have gotten something at the pound??

Have you had him checked by your vet? Whenever you get a new animal, it's best to have them examined by your vet within the first 2-3 days.

At this point, I'd call your vet and tell them what's going on. That is not normal at all.

I would be worried too that he hasn't pooped-but since he hasn't ate much yet I'd say that its to be expected. Dogs need adjustment time in a new home, and he is still getting used to his new environment & family! He will eventually come around & stick to a schedule you set.

I do think it would be beneficial for you to take him for a checkup at your local vet-just a once over to make sure he's healthy! The pound can be a breeding ground for bacteria and infection, so a few tests to make sure he's free of anything like worms, giardia, or gum disease is probably a good idea.

And again, good for you for rescuing this dog! I think its a wonderful thing when someone opens their heart and home to an animal.

He could also be going when no one is watching and then immediately eating it. He might have been scolded for eliminating in the house before or hit for it so he's associated going to the bathroom as bad, no matter where he does it, so he hides the evidence so to speak.

Very possible, my girl Rio did this for awhile, due to being beaten for pottying in the house when no one had taught her otherwise.

Poor chow/GS mix. I think its possible that he is holding his poop on purpose. Or maybe he got something that clogged him up. If his level of energy is normal...i think you shouldn't worry. Just watch out because probably he will have a larger amount of poo when he's ready.

When I first adopted my dog, I had the same problem. I hope it's nothing serious. In my case, my dog Elsie just needed to basically "walk it out". She needed longer walks or extended play time in a fenced yard to go. Luckily that was an easy fix, but it took a while for me to figure it out because I'd never had a dog before.

dogs like to poop on the grass.. try putting him on your yard ,, and wait if he smells the grass , that is a sign that your dog is looking for a spot where he can poop..
