I don't post here a ton, but lurk around quite a bit....

I just got a bunch of photos of a couple of my dogs resized and uploaded onto the computer, so I thought I'd share them here.

At the end of every summer, right before they close the pool, the city pool is opened up so that you can take your dogs swimming. It is a great fundraiser, and a great time for the dogs and their owners. I took Zayda last year and she absolutely loved it! So, this year I ended up taking both Blake and Zayda (my min pins don't exactly enjoy swimming).

It was Blake's first time actually swimming. Luckily, I had bought him a life jacket a few days before the dog paddle. At first he was pretty scared but I went out in the water with him and helped him swim. Then, I threw a tennis ball out a few feet and had him swimming and fetching in no time! (I think he thought he was pretty badass when he finally figured it out!)

Zayda, as with everything else, is a natural.

Here are some photos from the 2009 Dog Paddle....most of these were taken by Andrew. These first ones are of Blake.

I can't believe you were able to wear her out!

I was also surprised at how well my sister's dog took to the lifejacket. I'll definitely recommend them to people with dogs that aren't your traditional water dog.

And good work getting Andrew to go with you. :) Great shots as usual.

Wonderful pics! I love the ones of her diving/jumping from the diving board.

You've given me a thought for a potential future business!

There are so few places for folks to go swimming with their pets now a days.

Please jump in more often around here with posts! It is good to get to know you.

Oh, such fun! Rio would love that. Kye, well, she'd wait for Rio to return with whatever toy she had so she could try to steal it ;) the bugger.

One question though: does the chlorine and whatnot in the pool bother them at all, or was it like a saltwater pool? Just curious.

Awesome photos. Is Zayda a dock dog? If not, she should be. She's superb!

Blake's too cute with his life jacket on.

Thank you! I was really grateful that my husband was willing to come along and take these photos, I would not have been able to watch the dogs and get photos of them very easily by myself. :)

We look forward to this event every year. It is a very successful fundraiser! I really wish that there was a pool just for dogs, I would totally pay to use it if I were given the option.

Haha, Kye's method sounds all too familiar.....(that is EXACTLY what Blake does with Zayda, and then he trots around with the toy like he is so awesome!)

There is chlorine in the pool. I have never noticed any ill effects after taking my dogs. The only thing that I have really noticed, is their eyes may get a little red/irritated but this usually cleared up within an hour or so.

Thanks!

Zayda is not a dock dog.....honestly, I wasn't even aware that there was such a sport! I did a little research and found out that they are holding the 2010 national championships in Dubuque, IA...which is about 1 1/2 hours from my house. I think if nothing else I may go and at least watch.

I'm definitely going to be researching this sport more and see if there aren't any groups that get together and train in my area...or if it is something that I will just have to do on my own. Zayda would absolutely LOVE it!
