Hello everyone, I have a 7 month old ADORABLE Westie puppy. She is so smart and wonderfully behaved and not destructive, but she is horribly destructive to her toys. I can't find a toy that she really loves that she won't tear up! I mean we've looked HARD TOO! She can tear up anything in no time... Examples: We bought her one of the fire hose toys... gone in less than 10 minutes... Her treat Kong? Chunks are out of it!
She will play with tennis balls and not destroy them but she loses them so easily and it's tiring for us because she will roll it under things that we can't get it out from so it's not very independent when she wants to play and chew on her own..
We bought her a nylabone but she doesn't care for it most of the time, just when she is in a serious chewing mood.
So, what I'd like to know is if anyone has had this issue with their dogs and what they have done for it? I'm spending more money on toys for her than I am on her food and even cleaning supplies when we were finishing house training!
I feel bad for the poor pup because she loves to play but she is such a power chewer that she can't keep a toy for too long!
Please help!!

...you could start buying cheaper toys. ;)
It may be more fun for her to destroy something than to have something she can't destroy.

Yes but eventually I'll just spend as much buying her toys that she'll tear up in 10 minutes that cost $2 a piece rather than buying a $7.99 kong that isn't completely torn up but is getting there after 4 weeks... This crazy little pup!

I need a ball that is clever and doesn't go over the neighbor's fence, particularly the one that doesn't give them back. Or I need to get a bit more clever and not throw it that direction. Two in two days is not good.

Nothing is indestructible but we had a lot of luck with those giant balls for toddlers that have buttons and make noise. They drove the dog nuts, so he'd chase them through the house, but if they're built right, there's nothing to chew off, so they're TRYING to chew on it, but can't, and still get the satisfaction of something to chase around.

That seems like a pretty good idea.. I may look for one.. I try to find the more quiet toys because I live in an apartment with neighbors.. I just get worried though because no one really understands the severity of this chewing until they witness it.
Thank you, though, I'll strongly consider trying that

We have one that's built like a cat toy, it's huge though with a bell inside it, and then we have others that you can set to music or noises, or with no sound at all (you can always take the batteries out). The thing is, it has just enough grip that they THINK they can get it, but it turns out they can't, because it's too slippery. :)

You can also try going to goodwill or st. vincent de paul or some other store that sells used items and go to garage sales and get cheap kid toys that they can chew on - with supervision of course - for them to chew up! :) That's what we did with Travis for a while, before we found the big balls!

I recently wrote an article about some of the dog toys I've loved and use frequently. A lot of "boredom buster" tips too.
I just want to share my knowledge and advice with other dog owners and get feedback, hope you like what you see!
