I'm sure someone will know for sure, but my guess would be parakeet. (budgie)
Are you giving a prize?:) or is this a new member of your immediate family?;)

Lol no prize, and not a new member of my family!
I'm sending the photo to be on our shelter website, but don't actually know what it is!! It isn't a budgie.

I don't know parrots so well, but he looks angry! I like the colors though. :) Good luck!

That is an Amazon parrot, from the red on him, I'm guessing Mexican red-headed, or Red Lored.

Could be wrong, but he looks alot like a kakariki, from New Zealand.

No, it's not a parakeet, nor a kakariki. It is an Amazon Parrot. I'm leaning towards Mexican Red-headed.

ok -I just thought he looked alot like the one I've seen, so I thought I'd throw my suggestion on the pile. I'm by no means an expert on birds!!:)

I agree with Becky that he's an amazon, it was my first thought also... I just don't know the different varieties of amazon like she does. :)

Red Crowned Amazon mebbe? At first glance I thought some kind of conure, but I think that's out.

Red Crowned Amazon is another name for the Mexican Red headed, they are also called Green Cheeked Amazons! Lots of names for one green bird. lol
Conures are much smaller, and they have long tails.

This guy isn't huge... I'll have to get a photo next to something to compare

If it is the Amazon I'm thinking, they're not big birds, about 12 to 13 inches from head to tail. Amazons vary in size from quite small, to the largest Amazon, the Mealy.

It is smaller than that. I'm guessing 8-10 inches.
The "bird people" have been in. They always take birds from us, and they said it is a half-moon conure.

Ooh, pretty name for a birdy. I've never heard of them before. :)
I hope he finds a nice home soon, bless him.

Interesting. Half moons do get up to about 9.5 inches long. If your bird has a longish, pointy tail, then they are probably right. If the tail is short and flat across the bottom, then they're wrong. The tail looks flat across in your photo, but photos can be decieving. He doesn't look exactly like either in my eyes, but there are variations in coloring, and even hybrids. I just think he looks more amazon than conure.
It can be difficult to recognize parrot species by photos, even in person at times. Many of them look very similar.
These are half moons: You all decide.

Yeah he has a long tail :) I'd thought he was a conure to begin with, and after doing some googling thought he might be half-moon, but, like you said, he doesn't look exactly like one.

Sure has the colouring of one though. Uncanny resemblance.
I don't care what he is, as long as he's happy and safe and ends up in a good home. :) (Preferably with someone who does know what he is! :p)
