so there is a college campus here in town where there is a duck pond. i was down watching the ducks and this guy comes up with a pitcher full of fish.

he asks me.....so you think they'll live in there? i'm moving and can't take them with me. [keep in mind this pond is mucky with literally hundreds of hungry ducks swarming around right by where we were on the bridge.]

there are tons of goldfish who do live in the pond, so i ask to see what kind of fish he's got. he had one goldfish in there, but the rest were tropical fish! what kind of moron would think tiny little mollys could make it in that kind of environment.

i figured the shock from temperature differences or water pollution would kill them in a second if the ducks didn't.

so anyway, i offered to take them off his hands! i went and got a new 10 gallon tank and just love them. i'm just really glad i was there to keep him from feeding the ducks :)

ya he was in college. had to be around early twenties

there was one gold fish that is about 5 inches long and then 4 of the yellow and orange mollies. at least i'm pretty sure they're mollies. i had a dalmation molly before that was the same shape as these ones.

they're all doing well and i introduced them to my snail and fish, and they're so pretty

How lucky to those fish that you happened to be there at the right time...eeeeeeck...I can not believe he was going to dump them there. You may think this guy was "dorky" for doing this but the first thing I thought of.....he coul've just dumped them in the toilet.....so we will give him a slight credit there fot at least giving them a fighting chance. WELL......I was trying to find the better sight of the story....hahahahaha.....

ya i thought about that as well.....i know a lot of people wouldn't have taken the time to drive down and release them. i just don't understand why college kids get pets that they know they can't take with them.

I used to raise mollies, platys and guppies. The 4 yellow and orange fish sound like platys they sometimes have a mickey mouse shape on their tail, but they are shaped just like the molly. Happy to hear you were there to interven :)

Yes they sound like sunburst palties. Unless they have the black on the tail that looks like Mickey Mouse's head. So sweet of you to save those poor babies. :)

Personally I'm not a big molly or platy fan... but I also wouldn't condone dumping them in a pond! They would definitely have died. Its a good thing you were there! Glad you were able to take them in! :)

Goldfish and tropical fish? They're right on the opposite ends of the pH scale. Amazing how they even survived that long.

update....

well they're all still alive and doing well....but a strange thing happened. i put my dannio and my snail in the tank with them....then all the sudden the snail dissappeared. there's no sign of him anywhere....i haven't found him or his shell anywhere. ???

anyone have any guesses what might have happened to him?

and ya now that you mention platys i'm over here going 'duh'. i forgot all about platys. lol

those fish are priety lucky you were there.
i love fish. i have a tank but no fish becouse i dont have the room to set it up. but when i get married we might be moving so hopefully i can set it up. the guy has to be the biggest iddiot, if he kept fish he should know how to look after them properly. if he cept them properly then he should know they cant be thrown into a pond.
the familys yabby did that we found him under the stove he had escaped out of his tank.
