Hi ChirppyGirl.... we regularly trim all our guys, but we have macaws and cockatoo's, so Im really not sure if you trim 'keets feathers the same way because of their size. Maybe you could take your 'keet to the vet for the first trim and let them show you how to do it. With our big guys, we have to be very careful of blood feathers.. Im sure its the same way for the little guys. Good luck :)

I would go to a local petshop that is very experienced in birds and ask for a demonstration. They can use a bird in need of clipping (parakeet) or even one that has already been clipped, just to give you an idea of the proper way to hold the wing and where to clip. You could also ask around about a breeder of parakeets in your location and pay them a visit for advice on clipping. I would not attempt until someone has shown you the proper way, the bird can bleed to death if cut to close!

I have a parakeet, and i just trim the longest feathers, to the size of the other feathers, but you should probably go to a bird store

Yes I agree that you should have someone demostrate before trying it yourself. :D
