Hey every one!!

I Just got a new cockateil today from the pet store and it was hand raised, so it is very tame. The problem is I think it might be sick. I read somwhere that it the birds poop is green and wet that the bird could be sick. It looks like he has diarrea. What should I do?

Hi spears and welcome :)

I have all large birds and their poo will vary in color and textue depending on what they ate previously.... what is your tiel eating?. Unfortunately, many animals that come from pet stores are sick, so you may want to take it to the vet for a check-up. Birds should have annual check-ups and bloodwork done anyways, to make sure everything is ok. Alot of times, a bird wont show its sick or that something is wrong until its too late. Best of luck to you and congratulations on your new feather kid ;) .

Hi spears...First of all congratulations on your new 'tiel!!! A good check up does not hurt anybody so that is very good advice. Stress from rehoming can cause the feces to be runny and not good coloring. How old is your bird? I personally do not agree with the color green means they are sick. I have 3 'tiels right now and when they eat something different or get all worked up with anything out of their routine it will cause some runniness. Good luck to you and keep us updated!

He`s 4-5 months old. He seems to be doing alot better now.. When I open the door to his cage he comes right out to me and he gets very exited. I think he was scared the first day and was tired and grumpy.

Sometimes it is hard to tell with out DNA but most males have a bright orange patch on the cheeks and the females will be pale looking. Also very seldom do the females talk but they can. I am glad he is settleing down and looking better. A new home can be very stressfull for them. Lots of luck!!!!

Is it still on formula? Is he on the bottom of the cage? Is he fluffed up? If so get him to a vet ASAP. let me know.
