hello =)

i'm new to this forum *waves* =p

i'm here to ask a question...

... ok here it is.......

is it safe or ok to give cuttlebone to breeding female budgie? i read in a book that it causes egg binding but on a website somewhere it said...

"Egg binding can be caused by a lack of calcium, so be sure that a mineral grit and cuttlebone is available at all times. Vitamins are needed for calcium to be utilized by the bird's system, so be sure that all aspects of nutrition are correct. "

i'm confused.... :confused:

thank you for answers and opinions they are greatly appreciated :D

Cuttlebone is safe to give a breeding budgie. It's is very important that an egg laying bird has a source of calcium. I bred my cockatiels a couple times and always notice that female chews the cuttlebone more than usually when it's close to laying eggs. They should know how much they need.
