Ok, today we found some small insects (most likely mites of some sort) living in our crested's terrarium. We extensivly and repeatedly checked him for mites and didnt find any but we sprayed him down with mite spray anyway and put him in a spare terrarium. As we were watching him check out the new digs he defecated and then proceeded to eat it out of his own bottom!!!! Is this normal behavior?

okay back up. You treated your gecko for what you THINK was mites?

You should NEVER treat any animal for something unless you know for sure what it is!! There are so many possibilities for what it could have been. If you have a naturalistic setup, then you will have bugs in the soil. Most of them are harmless to your gecko. Springtails come to mind, we have them in our vivariums.

What are you feeding your gecko, and how often?

If you have a male, it is "normal" for them to lick their man parts especially after mating. Did you have a female in the terrarium before you put him in there? If you did, he probably smelled her and got excited.

Mites are very uncommon in the Rhacodactylus genus, except for leachianus.
