well I am looking to get another horse, but i ran into a wall. I am not sure if i want to get a foal and train it, or maybe a little bit older like 3 or so and train it. i have trained horses and still do but they are not my own now because well my horse is 20 and havent gotten any new horses lol. opinions would be nice :)

Have you ever raised and trained a horse? I have a sister that has done so for years. Sadly she's far away and I've never seen her results in person. I do know she trains long before she ever rides. I know when done badly, the problems are difficult to overcome. She often has told me stories of problems she's been hired to fix. They usually happen with a young horse that is improperly trained.

I myself know nothing of training. She used to send me the most beautiful photos of the hunters/jumpers she was training.

If it twere me, I'd rescue anything on its way to slaughter if I had the means to adopt a new horse. But that's just me! :p I'm guessing you have a place to buy from in mind? A specific breed, perhaps?

Here's my little thought. With a foal, you're starting with a blank canvas, he's going to look to you for guidance right from the start, you'll be everything to him. You'll teach him everything he will ever know. I like the thought of bonding with one so closely from being so young.

With a three year old, they already have their own opinions and ideas. :p If they've been raised by someone who has handled them properly and taught them manners and the value of personal space, then you're good to go. If they've been raised by someone who has let them do as they please growing up, or someone who has handled them badly, you're in for a much harder job. Not an impossible job, just harder. But harder's not always a bad thing! The harder you work the prouder you can be of what you accomplish together.

I fell in love with Aubrey when he was six months old, but I didn't adopt him until he was six. Although I wish I could have taken him when I first saw him, we had no trouble bonding when we did finally get together. :) I love him more than life and I know he thinks of me as his best friend.

I don't suppose age really matters. It's completely up to you. Maybe you could decide by seeing what horses are available to you and which one you fall in love with, rather than deciding the age first.

Good luck finding the perfect new bubba. We want pictures when you get him/her! :D

Thanks for all the replys everyone :) yes, i have trained horses before, my dad has to. ive been looking at places around here that take in rescuse's. well i have decided to get a foal, the bad thing none of the rescue places around have any so now... i must wait :( but its ok cause it gives me time to help my ranch owner get a nice big pen up for him/her next to my older horse holly. Since she is the last in the row she is in we decided we will but the foal next to her. i cant wait, i wish i could find a foal of a draft breed but out here that is SO rare :( the owner of the ranch is helping me to thank goodness, i decided more or less to look for a horse 15h and taller. well that will be when they mature lol. i just cant wait its like.... knowing your gonna get a new car or something lol. I have to agree cause if you get a foal, they do look to you ad the bond just grows. Well as soon as i find a little one to get ill post pics up miht be a while but you never know cause sadly out here there are so many rescuwe horses and not enough places. it is my dream to mke a ranch for rescue horses/animals, my parents own a good few acres of land, we are just waiting to get water, electricty and a house on it, and they said i can try to start a rescue ranch, the lady who i board my horse with now said she would help becuse she takes rescue horses in, plus my parents want to also hehe.

hehe yeah my dad and i are going to talk more about it. he is planning on retiring and he is excited about it, so is the lady who owns the ranch i have my horse at now because its so sad, there are so many horses who need to be rescued up here and their are not enough places :( my dad teases me and says ill probley end up keep a few because he rides, i ride, my mom rides, my fiance rides and we hope when our sons gets older he will :) thanks :) yep i cant wait to find that right foalie. i have let some resuce places nearby know so they are helping look and if they get any they are gonna let me know. it so exciting to know i might be abe to help horses/animals who need homes. my riding trainer/ranch owner said she will help me get my first rescue if i start a place because she used to work for the santa anita race track and knows alot of people getting rid of race horses because they are not fast enough or they got a slight injury but dont want to bother treating them so they get rid of them. we kinda got an idea how we would set it up but will probley go back to the property and i guess you could say check and re check on how it would be set-up.

I think if you have horse training knowledge, then getting a colt or filly is the way to go. There is nothing better than raising and training an animal yourself - which is why most people get young puppies and kitties.

I think you should get an App. I really want an App with lots of color, 'cause those that know me know I like color on my animals. :)
