Here's how to make a big horse look like a tiny lil pony. Stand on something high! :P

I know you guys aren't as infatuated with him as I am, but I just love this horsey so much, I just wanted to share his gorgeousness with you guys! I seem to have a hard time getting pictures that really do him justice.

I got on him on Sunday, but a hedge cutter started screeching from afar and set all the horses off, so I got off pretty quick... He was pretty good about the noise and didn't seem to care that the others were being stupid, but I didn't want to press my luck.

We're getting there slowly but surely. Thanks Krystal.

Does he still get bitten on the legs?

Does he still get bitten on the legs?

Yes, sometimes, but they don't tend to go for legs as much. A fly got stuck under his fly sheet the other day... You can't win!

The big biting flies have been so bad while it's been this hot, we had to put fly rugs on a couple of the other horses too, because they were getting so upset at being attacked by flies, and we couldn't bring them inside straight away. We've never done that before! It's scary how this change in the weather is making life so easy for these evil, evil flies. We need more birds to eat them all up for us.

Here's a pic of 'em. That's Aub on the right.

It's 9.45pm here, I just got back from work (went to check everyone was okay because boss is away) and the horses all looked SO relieved and so happy and sleepy! It's nice and cool now and no flies about. Bliss! :)

I only have the one horse, Liz, but thank you very much. I love his shiny coat too, he's stunning. Especially when he's in the sun. Unfortunately he's always wearing his fly sheet, so nobody ever gets to see just how beautiful he really is under there! Love him to bits.

I wanted to say this but didn't want to start a new thread: POOR AUBREY.

FLIES are EVIL.

I always try to stop him from scratching when he comes in, and I drown him in anti-itch oil, but oh my god, the flies were out in force today. You know those big fat ones that bite like crazy? I'm covered in bites myself, and they itch so, so badly. I feel cruel for not letting him scratch, because I'm at it myself now. I'm making myself bleed too. But he makes himself bleed, he scratches all his tail and mane off. He's even managed to get some bald patches now with nowhere to scratch other than on the ground! My poor poor boy. I felt so cruel leaving him out there with them today, but I can't trust him left inside not to rub all his skin off. :(

And we've actually been getting somewhere with our training, but when he's as itchy as he is there's just no way we can do any work, it wouldn't be fair on him. It's so frustrating. Sweet itch is so cruel, I hate it so much. I wish there was a cure.

This is just the start, it normally gets out of hand once it gets to this point, but I am determined to not let it get there this year!!

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq269/nospecialfeatureshere/sca052.jpg

This is bottom of his neck, he's rubbed his mane off just above withers:

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq269/nospecialfeatureshere/sca051.jpg

The worst affected areas are all along his mane, spine, backside, tail and up near his belly button. But I'm hoping like mad it won't get any worse than it is at the moment now.

Caught him scrattin' his botty for a sec here. You should see him scratching the top of his head with a back hoof. It's impressive, albeit annoying. I never have my phone at the ready when he does that. I'll catch him one day.

He's such a sweetie pie, checking on his friend. (Her arse isn't really that big, btw, just a really bad camera angle ;))

Awww poor Aub, it is awful not being able to scratch that itch! Unfortunately he doesn't understand that scratching only makes itch more.

What happened to the hat you made him last year to chase those mean flies away?

So I'm watching the video and thinking that that's you talking...and I'm wondering what the heck you are on about...then I realized it was your radio!

Aubrey is such a handsome dude! He looks so dark in those two full body shots, I thought he was a lighter brown!

Looking a bit better, that anti-itch stuff is a miracle worker at clearing up his scabbies!

Flies are still evil though. Even worse today.

I went picking out the hooves of one of the mares that live in paddock with aubrey, and her legs and feet are pretty sore at the moment so she was really reluctant to lift any of them up for me. It was a really tough job lifting them up against her will. Aubrey stood with us, watching. And when I finished he stepped between us and lifted a leg up! "My turn, mummy! me me me!" Awwwwww, he is the most precious-est thing I ever sawed!! :p

He still wears it, but it doesn't keep the flies away unfortunately, just protects his eyes and ears from the evil things. I didn't make it though, I bought it for him. (It was difficult finding him one big enough because his head's so big.) I wish I was handy with making stuff like that, but I'm as much use with a needle and thread as Aubrey would be with one. Lol.

I love him sooooo. Here he is with his bestest friend, taken today:

And Katie, I don't talk like that. I'm much more whiny and annoying. ;)

That 3rd photo does him justice alright Heather. :) Normally I can never get a sense of how big/small he is. For some reason I always imagined him to be smaller but pic' number 3 set that straight. He really is a handsome lad.

He's a beautiful animal, but I'm still scared of him! I don't know why, but horses scare me. But he is lovely, his face looks like he has a good nature, Pip

I'll have to try and get someone to take a pic of me stood next to him. The top of my head is about the height of the top of his withers I think.

Thanks for the compliments on him, guys, they mean a lot because we're practically all alone out there and nobody ever gets to see him, I can't show him off to anybody!

Pip, I can understand why you'd be nervous of a big animal; they're bloody dangerous(!) :p Not Aubley blobs though, he's just a massive cuddle bug and I love him to bits and pieces. The other day I was picking muck out of his field, I suddenly felt his chin resting on my shoulder. :D He's really, really sweet.

I wish I could get one of me riding him, it's not faaaaaair! Wow, tantrum alert. :p Just kidding, I'm cool. I don't care that I have an amazing horse with massive potential just stood around in a field going to waste. Big whoop. (Except I really do care very much and it's such an awful waste. :()
