Any ideas in treats that will not upset the eating pattern? I'll admitt we have gotten carried away with milk bones .A friend suggested carrots??

Hi:
Treats??? My dog will only eat his dog food so that he can have treats LOL. He eats carrots, cucumber, celery, blueberries, banana, cottage cheese, just to name a few treats. He gets a Greenie every couple of days or so. He also likes a packaged treat called Canine Carryouts. They look like little pieces of steak, sort of. The thing is, he doesn't get treats until he's eaten his food. He eats early to mid-afternoon, so he thinks he can snack all night LOL. Good luck finding treats for your pooch

My dog LOVES carrots. We were feeding her snausages many times a day just b/c she is a spoiled dog, but the vet has recently put her on a prescription diet, and I read somewhere that carrots and apples (just to name a few) are rather good for dogs. I was shocked that she even ate them, but she now considers them treats and loves them. I give her one of the baby carrots randomly throughout the day when she does something good or just when she gives me one of her weepy eyed looks and it doent seem to mess with her feeding schedule at all.

Never thought about carrots, I bet they would like them since they are sweet and crunchy. I give my doggies peanut butter dog biscuits as treats and also those chewy beef strip thingees.....like pig ears. Daisy LOVES those things! I bought them huge smoked hog ears once and she ate it in like 10 minutes! You'd think I never feed them.

I have seen a couple of dogs that go crazy over... ice cubes! Could it be that simple?! Mine never have gone crazy over them, they just lick them until they melt.

In DOGS USA magazine it says that you can give your dog canned unsalted vegetables...

For most of our training, I use cut up bits of "Rollover" (very very small bits, just big enough for the dog to taste). It's some-what soft and the dogs LOVE it. It's pretty cheap too. I pay about 4 dollars and it lasts a bit more than a week, sometimes two weeks.

Be careful with commercial treats. A lot have BHA/BTA which is suspected to be a carcinogenic ingredient.

Apples/veggies/cheese/hotdogs/watermelon/etc are much healthier alternatives.

I recently found chicken jerky for dogs - it looks like from the ingredients that they are all natural. Mirra LOVES them!! I am a vegetarian, so I wouldnt eat them even if they were made for humans, but I tried to get my little brother to taste them...he said no :)

If something had this BHA/BTA would it say those exact words on the ingredients list?
Any other ingredients we should specifically avoid. We need to make our weekly trip to Petco today and I'd love to get her some healthier treats.

If it had the ingredient, it would say either "BHA" or "BHT" (Sorry, it's not BTA..made a slight typo last time). I guess it could also be listed as "Butylated Hydroxysanisole" or "Butylated Hydroxytoluene" as well.

Here's my friend's site. She has some ingredients you should avoid listed on there.
