Last night Tweety tried vanilla ice cream and loved it. I am hoping that by starting with treats, she may start trying anything and everything.

Jason, have you tried to give Tweety some sprouts? For the longest time, I couldn't get Rio to eat any fresh or cooked foods. All she wanted to eat were her pellets, seeds & some nuts. Then I tried the birdie bread and she gobbled that up. Next, I tried her on some sprouts and I couldn't believe my eyes. She spent the whole day eating! Once I knew she LOVES sprouts, I started adding small amounts of fresh veggies to the sprouts (grated carrots, broccoli flowerets, shredded kale or dandelion leaves, etc.) and now Rio eats EVERYTHING!
Bijou on the other hand is not a problem when it comes to introducing new food. Her first reaction to anything new that I put in her food bowl is to attack it! She'll hop right on the food bowl and start beating up on the new food. Then while she's trying to beat up the food, she'll realize that she likes the taste and start eating it. :D

She is very picky. She loves our green cheek conure, so after he gets done eating we let Tweety enter his cage and finish what is left. She will not eat anything new out of her own bowl. The ice cream she tried was on my fingers. I hope that if she likes getting treats this way, she will try other things that way.

If your birds like frozen treats, maybe you could chop up or put through a food processor some healthy veggies and things, then put a small bit into an ice cube tray and fill the rest up wiht orange juice or something and see if they'd eat that.

Aren't parrots lactose intolerant?

Some have big problems with dairy foods, some can handle a small bit, and some seem to be able to eat alot of dairy products with no negative side affects. However, I don't know how good for birds those kind of foods are because in the wild no bird eats cheese, milk, yougurt, etc... My birds all love cheese, but I don't feed it to them that often.

Well, I have never noticed any negative side effects. We don't give a large amount to them, however they get it sometimes as a snack. Also when you have a picky parakeet that would rather starve than eat something she does not like, I figured that it may get her into trying new things if she likes what I give her.

It seems to have worked. Yesterday, I put a piece of a pancake into her bowl and she ate some of it. She is also starting to show interest when we cook. I am also going to try her on some fruit, she has put on some weight also. She was a bit small for a parakeet even though she always has food and water.
