April,
Your health has been a roller coaster for a few months now. Your cage-mate, Rhys, and I watched you go up and down and suffered along side of you. This morning you finally went to sleep for good. Rhys and I shared a cry and buried you in the rose garden. We will miss you very much and hope that wherever your spirit is, that you are happy and never suffer again.

We love you April!

I'm so sorry to hear about April's passing. How old was she? At least her suffering is done, and she's peaceful and healthy once again. You'll have to comfort Rhys as she'll miss her friend, and not understand the sudden loss of her cage mate. I'm sure Rhys will also comfort you.

I'm so sorry for your sad loss. I'm glad April was with the ones she loved when she passed; she was one of the lucky ones. I'm sure she loved you very much for being there for her when she needed you the most.

RIP, sweet April. x

I am very sorry for you loss. It sounds like she went peacefully in her sleep. As Becky said, she is healthy now and enjoying herself at the Rainbow Bridge. She is running around greeting and being greeted by those that were waiting there.

Thank you for all your support :) I really appreciate it. Rhys is hanging out with me today while I do my dog walking duties. She hangs out on my shoulder and loves my dogs :) April was only 2 in human years, but I got her second hand and knew she had health problems to begin with. Her last owners didn't clean their cage well or often enough and she would get bloody noses and wheeze heavily all the time. I found them abandoned in my neighbors house, in their dirty cage with no food left. I was hired to clean out the remains of the house for the owner (He was renting it out and was too lazy to clean it himself which is fine. I made $100 and saved the rats he would have killed.)

Anyway, I am very happy that I was able to make the rest of her life as comfortable as could be. I tend to spoil my pets lol!

Thanks again for all your support. If it weren't for other pet lovers, I think I would lose my mind. Other people just don't seem to understand!

So sorry for your loss. Its hard to lose a beloved pet. At least he's in a better place.
How long do rats live if they're in good health.

All the research I have read says they can live 3-5 years. I have had some live longer and some live shorter. Thanks for your condolences. Rhys is taking it a little harder than me, but I have been here before. It's hard. But Rhys has only known April. Now she is all alone in the cage. She won't eat and she makes crying sounds at night :(

That's not spoiling, that's loving! Hurray for you for rescuing those little ratties.

It sounds like you are doing everything you can to help Rys make the adjustment. Do you think Rys might like a new friend?

Lol. As I am reading this I am laughing about Rhys. Rhys managed to get out of her home yesterday while I was putting some treats in and she moved in with my guinea pig, Pua'a. I was a little worried at first because I didn't think they would get along, but they seem to be just fine. Pua'a has enough room in his home for Rhys to move in and they seem happy enough. They shared some watermelon this morning and both seemed like they'd known each other forever! It is the cutest thing and I will put up the link for pictures as soon as I get them loaded!

Aww, that is adorable. Sounds like Chica. She'll let anyone move into her bed. She's so sweet. I am sorry for your loss, it's so sad that rats cannot sit with us for very long.

Sounds like Rhys is a smart rat & it sounds like your guinea pig Pau has a new friend for life.

What a wonderful heartwarming thing to happen! I'm so glad Rys has a friend again. And it sounds like Pua'a is enjoying his new found roommate and friend, too.

Thanks for sharing this with us.
