This is my very first time posting here but I'm hoping someone out there can help me out.

I have two Tuxedo cats that are 3 1/2 years old. They are sisters and their names are Starla and Daisy. Daisy has always been my fast eater. I jokingly call her my bullemic kitty. She would scarf her food down and it would immediately come back up. Not Starla. Starla has never had any kind of issues except hairballs. She is OCD about cleaning herself.

Anyway, about a month ago, Starla was throwing up quite a bit so I took both kitties to the vet and they did all kinds of tests on Starla and $600 later, told me she needed some fiber in her diet and maybe to give her half a Pepcid AC. That's fine by me, that means my babies are okay.

Last night, both of them started throwing up. Oh! I recently moved into a new apartment, which I'll mention in a sec. They both were throwing up their food and I figured I was giving them too much. I sometimes overfeed them and Daisy goes to town on her food. So they both threw up a few different times. And then again this morning. So I'm worried.

What I want to know is if #1, should I take them to the vet? I really can't afford it, especially if its just gonna be another "feed them different food with more fiber" visit that will cost me an arm and a leg. #2 Should I be worried that there is something in my new apartment that's hurting them? We've lived there for a month and this is a brand new puking occurance. And #3, Should I try giving them Pepcid AC and see where it goes from there?

Thank you SO much for any and all information.

Beth

Did the Pepcid Ac work the first time? Do you have any plants, many are toxic to cats, have you changed their food, what type of litter do you use?

Hi Beth, I know what you are going through. I got on the computer this morning for the very same question. I have a Maine Coone (very long hair--and shedding) and she has been throwing up now a couple times a day for 3 days, then not for two days, and then last night she threw up again:( I feel so bad for her. She does have hair balls, but I am not sure that this is "normal"? on a daily basis?? She doesn't seem sick, and is always "cleaning" herself, so I know she is swallowing "hair". We have had "Tasha" for five years, she is spoiled to death--and I can't stand the thought of her having problems. I sure hope I don't have to take her to the vet--and go through the "pill" thing. I know how hard it is to give pills to cats. Anyone else got any ideas? Thanks, Dee H

Have you tried Petromalt or a similar product? It's a hairball remedy. It comes in a tube and many cats like the taste. I've used it in the past for long-haired cats or agressive grooming cats with good results. It's easy to find and inexpensive.

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I had foregotten about that and will buy some. I used to have it for my previous cat. Tasha is sooooo! fussy, probably she won't like the taste, but will try it. It is kind of like a vasoline texture isn't it? Also "malt" flavor.
Thanks, sure hope it works. My carpet is getting to look very multi colored!! The stains don't come out very well. But--my cat is worth the "stains" . Dee H

If the hairball remedy doesnt work, it could be your litter. If you use clumping clay litter. It causes vomiting and can clog up their intestines and eventually kill them. Swheat scoop is a great scoopable wheat litter that works great and is safe.

I have a question, where did you ever hear that clumping litter "eventually will kill" your cat??? I would like to hear some feed back on this. I do use the clumping litter, and really would like to know. Also, I have been giving my Tasha the hairball remedy stuff (like vasoline) and so far so good. She has stopped for the time throwing up.
Anyway, Please, anyone else know about the "clumping litter"??????? Thanks, DeeH
