We have two turtles and my husband just woke me to tell me that he thinks that one of our turtles is dead?!?!?! I have removed him from the main tank and put him in a smaller tank he did not move at all. He was underwater and has been there for atleast 6 hours. I am SO scared and not sure what to do now. How can I tell if he is dead? Please help!! Thank you all

I would say being underwater for 6 hours is your biggest indication that he's not alive. Turtles can survive about 30 minutes without air. :(

not to be gross or anything.. but usually you can smell if he's dead... and being under 6 hrs like that_girl said is probably a sure sign he's no longer alive.. sorry :(
Hey now, one time before my tarantula molted for the first time, I was shocked to see him laying flat on his back with all his legs splayed wide, and he stayed that way for hours. I decided that if he was still like that in a week that I would take him out and so something, I didn't know what, with him.
Needless to say I almost had a heart attack before I realized that there weren't two huge spiders in the tank, just Calcifer and his shed.
A little different than with the turtle, and I think he's not alive anymore either, but this kinda reminded me of that.
