Hello, I have a 12 year old female Chihuahua, and she is a bit overweight. She has started making a scary noise while she is sleeping. It is a very high pitched whine/weez combination. It sounds almost like a baby crying. When I wake her she seems a bit confused and has tears in her eyes. But she is fine very quickly. Last night she was lying next to me on the bed and she had one of these spells, it was so loud it woke me. When I looked at her, it appeared as though she could not breathe, and her body was very rigid. I picked her up and she did not wake right away, she continued to be rigid. But finally did wake up. She seemed fine after a few minutes. This is the first time I have been this close to her when this happened. It was very scary. I really did think she was dying. It started a few months ago, then she quit doing it for a few months, now it has started again. And it seems to be happening more often. Maybe 2 or 3 times per week. She tires easy on her walks. But she is eating and going to the bathroom fine. She does cough to the point of throwing up. Anyone have any ideas? I am very poor and I really can not afford a visit to the vet. This is scary.
Thank You
Mike
