Hello,
I purchased a beagle from a local pet store a year and half ago. Last night the dog under no pressure just started limping and screaming. I took him to the hospital where he was diagnosed with Medial Luxating Patella in both knees. The right knee needs surgery and the left knee it is recommended it gets surgery. My contract with "Shake a paw" pet store states that they guarantee the dog against congenital / hereditary defects for 5 years. Then below that it states another animal will be offered as a replacement which isn't what we were told at the time. When i called them this was the response they gave me, bring back the dog we'll send him to the breeder.:banghead: Obviously we are in love with this dog and would never give him away... (which they clearly are counting on by putting that clause in)
On a side note he told me i should be happy im getting that since when you adopt humans they dont give you a guarantee on its health and i should consider myself lucky. Wonderful customer service. I guess my question is should I even bother calling my lawyer? Also i brought the dog to their recommended vet who I have been using ever since and they have never mentioned anything about his hind legs. When I brought him for the initial puppy review, shouldnt they have picked up on this being that it is so bad? I even told them about his back legs being a little lame once in a while in a later visit and they said everything is fine. Are they covering up for the pet store?
Sorry for the long message. I appreciate any responses.

I am sorry to hear that you are having to go through such an ordeal, but am very glad that you are not willing to "swap" him...
Have you thought about taking him to a different vet and asking if this should have been caught sooner by the original vet?
Bless his heart...

What ever you signed is all they have to do. Sadly pet stores are in it for the money, and not the dog. Many good breeders will help in such situations with money, or if you wish, another dog while allowing you to keep the first. Pet stores aren't so accommodating.

Hopefully the surgery will have your baby up and back to his old self.
