See if she will let you check her paws to see if there are any wounds or more sensitive than usual. Though I'm no dog expert, it sounds like she might have gotten something pricking her. I suggest taking her to the vet especially if you can't see anything wrong. Best of luck!

Your pup just may be one that is ocd about keeping her nails short, too. My cat Linus chews his nails, and my dog Gator used to chew his all the time. We only had to trim their nails once and then they decided they were doing it themselves!

Is she causing damage to herself? If not then she probably is just trying to keep them short. How often do you cut her nails?

It can also be an obsessive behavior, such as licking. Like the above posters mentioned, if they are overly long, they may be irritating her. Check also to make sure she hasn't gotten anything (like mud) packed into them.

a vet visit to check for things like some kind of fungus causing itching might not be out of line.

Chewing and biting feet can be a sign of allergies and/or skin infections.

It could mean a million things, but then it could just be behavioral. :) Hope that helps.
