We couldn't find our dear little cat this morning and after searching everywhere found her dead near our home. Last night our yorkie was barking at something outside and hubby went outside and saw a very lethargic cat that he did'nt recognize as ours. Our little Holly was turning her head from one side to the other as if looking on the ground for something. It was very dark and he never dreampt it was her as she is usually in bed long before this midnight hour and he gently pushed the cat outside our fenced yard and he and the yorkie joined me in bed. When he found her dead there was no sign that she had been hit by a car or attacked by an animal. He is taking this SO hard because he didn't recognize and help her. What could have caused her death. He is thinking maybe a snake bite or something to do with her brain. She was in perfect health in the evening, playing and eating well. Please help if you can, it may help my husband to understand why. Thank you.

I'm so sorry to hear about your kitty. :( Unless you have an autopsy, you may never know the reason why but there is a chance she ate something that was poisonous to her or she could have gotten hit by a car and had internal injuries. Or as you said, a snake bite. Tell hubby not to be so hard on himself. She must have been pretty far gone for him not to recognize her and with it being so late well, these things happen. Sending prayers to you and hubby!

too crazy is right, it could have been a number of things. I feel so sad for your hubby, I could not imagine the pain he must be feeling, he can't blame himself. Sending prayers to your family.

My beloved cat of 17yrs died last Fri., early evening. I'd had him sinse he was a kitten. I miss him terribly! He had thyroid problems and was on meds for it. We missed a few dosages but the vet has said it's not what he died from but it was a factor in the rapid heartrate. My cat was severely dehydrated and she injected him with fluids and ordered blood work. I took my cat home and later on I noticed he was breathing heavily. It was time for his thyroid pill and I didn't know if I should give it to him or not and I called the vet at home and left a message. I waited and waited for her to call but she didn't and I gave him the pill and he died right then and there in my arms. She called just after and I was blaming myself for him dying and she said to quit doing that as she was going to tell me to give him the pill. I am blaming myself because I feel I killed my cat! The next day she told me she suspected his kidney's were shutting down and that made me feel worse because I feel if I hadn't missed giving him a few dosages then maybe he wouldn't have started to develop other problems. I feel such great guilt and I will have to live with it for the rest of my life!

I am so sorry about your kitties. I lost my Stormy two years ago. She was fine and all of a sudden she was having convulsions. The vet said she acted like she had gotten hold of some radiator alcohol. She had never been out of the house. One of lifes little mysteries. I still miss her like it was yesterday. My prayers go out to you. Tell your hubby it wasnt his fault. It was just her time. Maybe your Holly will meet up with my Stormy in kitty heaven. Wanda your kitty is welcome too. It wasnt your fault any more than it was mine that Stormy died.

Timsmom77, It sounds to me like your cat must have drank some antifreeze. I saw a cat on Animal Planet who acted like it was drunk and it was put to sleep because cats that drink antifreeze are affected quickly and usually you can't help them. I have never lost a cat as i have only had two and we ended up having to sell them, but i have lost other pets. I'm sorry to hear about this, it was nobodys fault. I hope you and your husband will be okay.

The cat your hubby found that was not familar might have attacked your cat...... There doesn't need to be a sign.. If the such animal he saw was a bob cat, myncx or bob tail myncx they leave no sign of an attack.....:(:(SORRY

The best way to prevent this is not to let your cat outside...
