HI Everyone
Does anyone have any experience with Shiba Inu's around children? I am considering getting one, but have read mixed reviews on how well they deal with small children. Any stories/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks:)

In my (limited) experience, only having known two Shibas, I'd say brought up properly they will be fine. They can be dominant and pushy, but if you get one from a pup and socialise it, and show it from the beginning that you and your kids are higher in the pack, it will be fine.

How young is the child, and are you planning on getting a puppy or adult dog?

We were looking at getting a puppy. And actually we dont have any kids yet but are planning for some in the future. I am concerned that since Shiba's can be dominant, maybe then introducing a child into the picture would be a challenge.

If the dog knows its place in the pack, bringing a child into it shouldn't be a problem.
Socialise it well with kids as a pup.

I had a shiba and would not recommend having one around children. She was just way too unpredictable behaviorally. Actually I have no children and I still would not have another shiba. YMMV.
