So we have a "Show us yourself" thread, how about a "Show us your pet"?

I don't know about anyone else, but I often have a single photo I want to share, but don't think it's worth creating a whole new thread for (guilty of this in the past, I know :o)...

So now everyone can share them here!

Do you like Vernon's new collar? lol! Don't think he'll be keeping it, somehow, it weighs about the same as Pandy!

Yep, eating it, rolling in it, thrashing it all about. He was in love with it. Shadow's Gorgeous by the way. Our snow was old, the last on the mountain, you're lucky to have fresh snow.

Diane, everytime I see Jojo I get choked up, and I've never even met him. For some reason Amazons touch me. At least the two of you had those good months together, though his early passing is so sad.

Katie, I love that inquisitive look on Jeannie's face. She's too cute.

Blobs is too cool. I used to have a horse, but sadly that was years ago. I still miss riding him, we had some great times together. He was a retired/failed racehorse. Great with my children, but put an adult on his back, and hold on! He loved to run.

Hey guys. There is a wee story behind this picture, Keeper (black) has been sick for the past day or two. What started off as diareah turned into a scare for my guy and me when we noticed blood in it. Took her to the vet first thing this morning and she's ok and on antibiotics for what the vet said was an infection. Well, because my guy works a few blocks away from our apartment he ran home to check on her; as he was leaving he said he looked at the bed and this is what he saw! Swears he had nothing to do with it. Sometimes these two just need a cuddle. And Fred has this uncanny ability to let us know when something is wrong. He acted strange when she gave birth and yesterday she was about to get sick and he whined and whimpered until my guy brought them out. Said as soon as he got them outside, Keeper was sick and Fred's attitude went right back to normal. So yea, here is Fred taking care of his sick sister:

Well, when you're fat, your stomach gets bigger, so it takes more to fill it. When he slims down, he won't feel so hungry all the time. It's always hardest making the first steps to losing weight because of the hunger factor. But once your stomach shrinks, you're on your way. Ooh, I should run a fat fighters. He is on his diet. Instead of free-feeding, he now has a set amount (roughly) that he gets everyday. I might have to reduce it a bit, to compensate for the tiny bit of ham.

That first pic (of your latest pics)......wow Emily! :07: Where is that?!?!

It's the woods up in Brandsby, a lil village outside York. We went for the morning, but unfortunately we hadn't been told that Jess was booked in for an x-ray this afternoon, so we had to cut it short.

I was going to take my camera, but someone (:headache:) ran the battery down last night!

I love the dirty Goldens!;)

Haha I shoved Holly in the lake, face first! :yikes: she went right under, and came out looking so shocked! She didn't go in any mud after that! Mwahaha! :p

Wiztherewoz
05-15-2009, 02:32 PM
sure... any remotely positive comments regarding the beautiful and normal thing that is Frankie's tail are completely worth a rep point as far as I'm concerned. I know he's had hair on it for over a year now, but it's still a fact I'm very proud of. :)

To all who don't know... this is how it used to look:

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq269/nospecialfeatureshere/rspca2007-1.jpg

Because he did this all the time:

http://i454.photobucket.com/albums/qq269/nospecialfeatureshere/rspca1029-1.jpg

Hence the pride over the hairy, happy and slobber-free tail that he's keen to wag instead of chew nowadays!

Diane, everytime I see Jojo I get choked up, and I've never even met him. For some reason Amazons touch me. At least the two of you had those good months together, though his early passing is so sad.

His friends were kept in tonight, so he's alone in the field with only two mares in the next paddock to him for company. When he first realised the other two weren't there he was absolutely kicking off, galloping around looking completely gorgeous and whinnying his head off. I wanted to get it on video, but whenever he saw me he calmed down and just stood there all placid looking at me. Awww.

This is only my second Dal but I have been training/grooming dogs for about 20years. What sort of problems are you having? What type of training have you been using? Dals respond well to positive training methods. I use clicker training exclusively for mine.

squashynose

He's in the shelter where I work. He's about 4 years old, and dominant and pushy, but we've got that pretty much under control now.

It's the pulling on the lead that's the problem!! He WILL NOT walk nicely, he goes most places on his hind legs. I've tried haltis and gentle leaders, half check collars, slip leads... I like to think I can get pretty much every dog walking nicely, but I just can't crack him. He'll choke himself til he passes out, rather than walk nicely.

I know he isn't coping well in the kennels, he's lucky if he gets one walk a week, which isn't anywhere near enough for him. He's also funny around food, so rewarding with treats is a bit... Dangerous.

daltrainer
09-27-2009, 03:35 PM
Yup .... Dals are notorious pullers. Try a harness that has the hook on the chest (Sens-ible or Sens-ation) if you can. Also, use the walk as the reward. Take the leash and get a firm grip on it, hold it at waist level and plant yourself. Only take a step if the leash is loose. You can use a clicker if he is used to one. Leash loosens ... click & take a step .... repeat. You are right he needs more than the odd walk. Lots of energy to burn off and much more managable if that energy is taken care of.

squashynose
09-27-2009, 03:43 PM
He has 5 months worth of energy to burn off!

I've tried the whole stop-start thing... I've been trying different methods for 5 months. I've actually given up at the moment, and I just let him walk on his hind legs.

He stops when he gets to doors now though, which is an improvement. He used to barge into them and open them!

He needs a home, desperately!

This is him btw :)

http://forums.petlovers.com/vb/picture.php?albumid=54&pictureid=897

We can get these halti harnesses now, although no one can ever work out how to get them on! I'll see if I can order him one and try that.

Really good advice, honestly; but I'd imagine it's impossible to do that in a shelter environment, as well as the sad fact that the people there, as lovely and dedicated as they are, simply don't have the time.

He needs a home pronto, poor pup. With someone with experience and buckets of patience.

Aw. Wish I could squeeze him in. Hmm... :33: No! Bad Hev.

He is beautiful! I wish I were closer. But, yes, you are all right....unfortunately the shelter life is just totally opposite what a Dal needs. They do need individual attention and at his age he will need someone with PATIENCE for sure. I do hope he finds a home soon.
