Rio took a poo on our walk yesterday when we first got home, and i took her out last night but nothing, and i've fed her twice since then and nothing's come out. due to my alarm clock not going off this morning (eergh) i didn't take them for their morning walk and i'm about to do so, so maybe she'll take one then.

should i worry?
she's obviously a little upset about the whole ordeal, coming here and whatnot.

and i don't sctually remember if kye held 'er in when i first got her or not, but probably not as i don't remember anything in particular.

The food change could have that effect. Since there are less fillers in the food it'll firm up the stools alot and make them less frequent and more compact. However i don't think you've been feeding the new food long enough to cause that effect so I'd put my money on stress from moving in and all the excitement.

no, i haven't been, i had to feed her that crap last night because it was Sunday and the stores were closed by the time i had her. i wasn't thinking actually, but i didn't want to leave Rio in the truck by herself on her first ride home, even tho she was in her kennel. she's only eaten the puppy food once now.

i'm sure she'll go, i'm just a nervous mommy is all.

Haha the nervous mommy thing is natural. You don't really have to start worrying unless it's been like 2-3 days. Some dogs only poop once a day, some go once every second day, mine go twice a day like clock work. There really is no single "normal" but there is a range, large volumes and frequent poops should be looked into, as should no poop for more than 2 days. Also has she maybe had a chance to go but then eat it? When dogs are scolded and beaten for pottying in the house they will some times eat it to "hide the evidence" so they do not get punished again.

oh my goodness i sure hope not, but frick..

i cleared all the potentially bad-for-puppies out of the garage and let her have free roam of it today. i saw nothing in her crate although i didn't expect to, and no spots that looked like she may have pooped there.

and who knows what they did to her, i heard the "in the garbage" reason and the pottying in the house. apparently she crawled over her boyfriends car, i could only imagine the consequences for that.

i told Rio today that no one was going to hurt her ever ever again. hopefully she believes me.

I tell that to the Great Pyrenees at the humane that every time I'm there because her former owners beat her for being protective of the property and barking at coyotes at night. It's been a couple weeks and I know she's getting close to trusting again, i can see it in her eyes and her motions. It just takes patience and understanding.

keep telling her. She'll believe you eventually.

Stress and change can throw anyone's cycle off, human and animal. You'll get to know her habits after a while. If she doesn't go at all after two full days, give your vet a call.

You'll be bringing her in for a check up soon anyway right? She may have parasites or fleas...poor puppy.

Soon, soon, Rio will forget all about the bad past and become the fun loving confident pup she was meant to be. Thanks to you. (and we'll give a little credit to the girl who recognized that Rio needed a good home and appealed to you)

Adopting an abused animal can be the most rewarding job ever as you see the fear and caution leave her eyes, and the wonder of discovery of love and joy replace it.

Suddenly one day you'll realize she's not flinching when you reach toward her anymore, and you'll know it's happened. Nothing like it in the world.

well, we're pooping regularly, but it's still quite loose and smelly. i do attribute that to the food change though. she eats well, doesn't scarf it down like i half-expected her to.

heh, a poo update..
