So i got a new fish, from a better store... He's a Siamese Fighting Fish and is rather lovely... Hopefully he won't die real quick. I cleaned everything in the bowl and let the water sit for like 18 hours before i even bought him and then i let his bag sit in there for an hour like the fish man told me to. Hopefully he'll live a while lol. He still needs a name though so suggest away!

Betta's live in mud puddles in their native country...that bowl is probably fine for him. However, I don't blame the gold fish for croaking in that bowl! :p ...goldfish need a lot more than just a bowl.

And I liberated those gold fish from Petcetera which is closing down (the only pet store in town that's closing down and it's the biggest chain store! hahaha, score one for the little guys!), those gold fish were doomed from the beginning at least i gave them a chance to see a little bit of the world. ;)

Haha so he is now named... for now anyways, i may change it later... But my friend and i hung out tonight and he insisted he name my fishy. So the formerly unnamed fishy has become Chuck 2.0 lol. The things i do for that damn boy! haha

I'll get more pictures tomorrow when Chuck 2.0 is willing to be more active and not giving me the stink eye. Maybe I'll be able to figure out how to use my camera too! :p

anyway...contrary to popular belief betta's do a lot better and live a lot longer in a heated and filtered tank...they have those little 5 gallon set-ups....even a 2.5 gallon set up is better than a bowl. and the 2.5 gallon setup is not that expensive. I'm not judging you....i'm just saying. Right now my betta is in a 10 gallon tank with 4 minnows and you wouldn't believe how active he is ...swimming around and enjoying his tank.

Haha Chuck 1.0 was my goldfish that died last time... And yes, a friend haha :p

I know Bettas do great in the heated filtered tanks, but mom threw away my old 5 gallon and all i could afford was the bowl or one of those tiny cubes right now... Chuck 2.0 is real active today though, swimmin around all over the place and when i put my finger against the glass he comes over and puts his nose against it. I'll upgrade if i ever have the money to get a nicer tank, until then he's got the bowl :p

Maybe you could find a cheap used aquarium? There's probably someone out there who's just lost their fish, has no intention of getting more and would like rid of the tank for little or even no money. The only reason I got my rats in the first place was because someone approached me in the street and asked me if I could take their vivarium off their hands. They just wanted rid of it. (I did get them a really great big expensive brand new cage after I saved up though!)

Keep your eyes open for ads in the paper. (Obviously you need to be careful they're not damaged, but, it's worth trying.)

Yes, yes he does have eyes. I'm just rubbish at photographing phish and my camera sucks so much that if you don't have flash on you can still be as still as possible and the picture comes out blurry as heck, so i had to use flash and his eye reflected.

also be careful of the plants in the bowl. Is it a plastic plant? they can tear the fins on a betta. Live or silk plants are recommended.

I'm glad Chuck 2.0 is starting to recognize you...my betta just started figuring out when feeding time is.

Next time i rework the bowl decorations I'll fit the budda in there somewhere... I thought it would be too crowded with everything in there, however chuck seems to like his little tunnel thing and likes to be amongst lots of things so we'll see!
