I have no idea what happened to him. I left this morning to go to the hair salon, fed them as usual and both seemed happy and healthy. I came home a few hours later and Bowser was dead. There are no marks on him so I don't think Tyson was fighting with him, no signs of fungal infection, nothing. Baffled.

I'm sorry to hear about your loss.

I've had the same thing happen with some of my fish. My last betta went the same way. He appeared perfectly healthy, was active and eating one day and dead the next morning. Sometimes animals can have problems that you just can't see.

My Betta died Friday. He started swimming upside down then went to the bottom of his tank. I had him for two and 1/2 years, so I guess that is a good time for a Betta to live, but it still doesn't make it hurt any less. At least he went quickly. Is the other fish doing okay?

He seems to be Joy. Tyson has always been the bigger of the two but I watched them eating daily to make sure Tyson wasn't eating Bowser's share of the food. I've tested the water and its fine so I guess its just a wait and see moment. Fingers crossed!

Fingers AND toes crossed for Tyson, and for you too. It's hard to lose our babies no matter what kind they are or how long they have been in our lives. It's never long enough.

Aw, Lisa, I'm so sorry to hear that. Such a shame. :(

RIP, little Bowser.

Thanks Heather. I know its not as devastating as losing a dog, cat etc. because its harder to form a bond or attachment to it, but it just makes me sad because something that I cared for is gone. Plus when it happens suddenly like that you can't help but wonder if you did something wrong along the way. Please don't anybody take offence at what I've just typed. I'm not saying that fish are worthless or that we shouldn't be sad.....I'm just saying that for me....the bond with my dogs is more so than any bond with the fish. I've probably made things ten times worse but there you go. Damage done. :-)

Well he was your pet and I'm sure you had some form of attatchment to him. And just because he's a fish doesn't mean you can't feel the same about him as you do doggies! Lol.
This just reminds me of when I was about 10 and I had lost my Betta fish, China, suddenly. But my brother actually knocked his bowl over on the ground looking for something and stepped on him:( It was a total freak accident but I remember bawling hystericly and taking China's bowl out into the rain and sitting with it my dead betta's bowl, crying, for about an hour. It was sad. What's even more sad is that my brother felt bad about it and went to go buy me another one and it ended up dying on his way home to bring it to me.
But I am sorry for your loss.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I know how much it hurts to lose a beloved pet, I miss my Smokey and Bandit *Male ratties* every day. I had a beta go the same way. He was perfectly fine, then he was floating on the top of the tank one day. :(

I'm so very sorry for your loss. My parents raise Koi so I understand completely what is it like to be attached to a fish. Doesn't matter big or small, scales, fins, fur or feathers, we love our extended family.

Hugs for you!

I am sorry you lost one of your fish. It is sad to lose any of our pets and we all try to support one another when that happens.

I think fish are one of the hardest pets to keep. Never had luck with them either.

I'm sorry for the loss of your Bowser. Loosing a pet is never easy, and when the cause in unknown, even more difficult.
