Can it be used for respiratory infection? My 14 yr old cat has been wheezing a bit and coughed a few times tonight. Haven't noticed her being like this until tonight.

Has your cat been diagnosed with respiratory infection? Coughing and wheezing could be a number of things. I did a search online and the information I found said zeniquin is used for bacterial skin and soft tissue infections in dogs and cats, and UTI's in dogs. I know there are vet tech's here and others pretty versed in prescription drugs for cats and their usage and I'm sure they can give you more feedback. It sounds like a vet visit may be in order. I hope your kitty is okay. It can be a bit scary when they exhibit upper respiratory symptoms. I still get a little panicked when my cat has an asthma attack, although he's having them less frequently these days.

Zeniquin is used mainly for skin issues. How old is this medication? It's not a good idea to keep antibiotics lying around. When you don't finish the entire course, the bacteria you're trying to get rid of start to grow a resistance to the antibiotic of choice. It's VERY important to ALWAYS finish antibiotics when your pet or yourself is given them. If the medication is not expired, it most likely won't hurt your cat, but it probably won't help either.

A 14 year old cat showing ANY illness symptoms should be brought to the vet without delay. And I agree with the others, don't use old medicine on your senior kitty.

Please let us know how she's doing and what you find out at the vet.

The Zeniquin had not expired. I checked that.

I took Tinkerbell to the vet yesterday. She had no fever but her lungs did have some congestion. The vet went ahead and gave her an injection of the antibiotic called Convenia. She is also running some blood work. If the antibiotic doesn't work then she will take an x-ray.

The vet also gave me the name of an over the counter decongestant to pick up at the drug store.

Convenia is an AWESOME drug. I'm glad you opted for that, it's more expensive than pills, but it's so much more convenient. I agree with the xrays if this doesn't clear up, I hope it does. But, she may have a fungal infection and/or heart and lung problems. Especially with her age.
