ok I know that most people think it is not safe to take a bird out side with out a harness but I have always wanted a bird that would go out side with me and Barkley's wings are cliped so well. we were doing some yard work out side and I asked my mom if I could bring Barkley out with me she gave me one of those are you crazy looks then said if you want to and well I really wanted to so I went and got her I think she really liked it just sitting on my hand and seeing all the other birds I'm going to take her out side every day with me but don't worry just in the yard for now.

Get her a harness. It is a lot safer. Also the only lovie sized ones I know of have an attached diaper. Flightsuits.

Sounds like a great, fun time! I don't think you really need a harness. Luvy's are pretty heavy-bodied birds unlike budgies, who even with all their flight feathers clipped can still fly! I have taken Scherzo (my p-faced) outside with me with her wings clipped well, and it's all gone great and she loves it- we even discovered a nest together with five baby birds in it! The harnesses also are pretty bulky fitting on some of the little birds, even if you get the smallest size. When I tried the small size on my green-cheek, who body size is only a tad larger than Scherzo, it was very uncomfortable for him since the straps were so thick under his wings. One other thing- sometimes we take our birds out in their cages if we are doing yard work or eating outside or whatever, anything where we are around but can't keep our eyes glued on them 100% of the time, and they enjoy that alot too. I hope you and Barkley have more outside fun together! :)

Birdgirl: That's great, but as usual, I tend to get overprotective so I'll say this anyway.....Please be extra careful. I have heard that even heavier, clipped birds can catch a strong breeze and get so excited that they fly off. (I guess I can't stop being an overly concerned birdie mother). Anyway, continue to have fun with your new little baby and I know you are always careful.
Love ya and Barkley, too.

I will be careful and will always look at her wing feathers before I take her out so I know she can't fly away. I will get my grey a harness though

Taz will not allow me to put a harness on. So I take him everywhere anyway. Taz really enjoys and everytime he sees something that scares him, he hides behind me and clings to the back of my shirt. Taz knows that I will protect him. When the bird knows what is expected, it is safe to bring them outside. Just be careful about storm draines. When I bring Tweety outside I keep a firm grip on her when near storm draines, since she is so small.

Birdgirl, maybe they have a size small enough for Barkley at flight quarters. If you go to their website, click on the "testimonials" and click on "2003" at the bottom of the page there is an albino parrotlet that is wearing a flight suit. If they have a flight suit for a parrotlet, I'm sure they'll have one that will fit Barkley. I just think that a harness may be a little too bulky and heavy for the small birds.
