ok i went to walmart and got two little spotted puffers and i need to know how you know they are sleeping and do you need to have the light off also how long do they sleep please tell...

maybe try getting a fish care book specific to your puffers, or do some digging on the internet.
the walmart employees..they couldn't give you any info or..?

most fish dont actually sleep, they rest. when the lights are off they tend to go to a structure and have wideeyes and breathe really slow. This is how most fish rest.
