My bunny CoCo is somewhat very unpredictable when it comes to using his litter box. Sometimes he pees and poops inside the litter and sometimes he doesn't. Sometimes he poops and pees inside then poops and pees outside.
I only put him in the cage during night time when he needs to sleep. DUring the day, he's free to roam around.
Do you think hes mad at me for putting him in the cage?
Is this normal?
Thanks
I have two rabbits. One is litter trained and the other is not. The one that is ltter trained uses his litter box most of the time. Sometimes he misses. When my daughter takes him out of his cage to clean it; she keeps him in the bathroom and nine times out of ten, he pees on the bathroom floor. She thinks that it is out of spite and he wants to go back into his cage. So it could be a spite thing because he wants to continue to run free. Do you keep the litter pan clean? Maybe he doesn't want to go in a litter pan that is soiled. Hope you can figure it out. Good luck with your bun! sincerely, lbee

Thanks Ibee.
I clean his litter box once a day. He does poop and pee alot though.
I may have given him too much freedom.

We try to encourage our bunnies to use the litter tray with treats. I like to think it is working. At least they seem to understand they get a treat after jumping out of the litter tray, they get all excited and come running at you. :18:
If the bunny looks like it is looking for a poo/pee spot, lift it in the litter tray, try to keep him in there, and when he comes out give him a small treat even if he doesn't poo. And when he is super nice by going in there by himself, and does poo or pee, be sure to hand out a treat. :)
The treats can be anything they like.. We have used small bits of peanuts or a raisin. It's important to give really tiny amounts at a time, especially if you do it many times a day (you will). After they seem to get a hang of it, you can stop giving treats. We use the treat method whenever the bunnies get sloppy and don't use the litter tray often enough.
