Mandarin - who is basically my husband's cat even though I really do love him and try hard with him - acts super super super nice to me only usually right before he pukes. Right now he's acting super nice to me and asking for pets, so I'm a little suspicious. Do I give him some petroleum jelly right now to hopefully stop him from puking or just enjoy this behavior of him being nice? Oh cats... I tell ya. LOL

Does he like the jelly? If he does then he's getting both pets and a treat, he'll love you 2x!

Well I left to do the laundry and sure enough when I came back he had puked...

The petroleum jelly is used for hairballs, so I figured it would help unclog him...

Ha ha ha ha ha, forcing himself to be nice to you must make him just feel sick! :p

You must feel so wanted. :D

how funny, his little habit of getting all lovey dovey before he gives you a present.

At that point, if you know he's getting ready to bring it up, I would advise you, as you did, to just let him. What the hairball remedy (or petroleum jelly) does is bind the hair together in a soft, easy to pass lump.

So ideally it targets the hair in the stomach and pushing it the other way. for something that is so close that it's ready to come up....just seems safer to let it come.

That binding action is why I always warn people to give hairball remedy on an empty stomach, at least an hour before a meal.

Glad everything came out okay for Mandarin!:)

"Mommy help me, my tummy's upset!!!!" That's what it feels like he's doing..... I feel so bad that I'm so annoyed everytime he's nice to me, because I know the puke is coming. It's like, "why can't you be nice to me more often???" Why does he run to ME anyways? Hmm... *thinks* Maybe it's because "daddy" just shoves him into the bathroom when he's nauseous and lets him barf all over there instead of on the carpet, or the couch, or the bed. Mommy talks to him and asks him if he's okay... so he runs to mommy when he doesn't feel good. *rolls eyes* So I'm only allowed to be the cat's mom when he's nauseous? I tell ya! Harumph!

It was a big hairball - and he hasn't had one in a looooooooooooooooooong time - so I gave him some petroluem jelly post-incident to hopefully help with anything else stuck in there - this is what I typically do; he pukes, I medicate. He is now feeling a lot friskier after a long nap and unfortunately my husband's working an over night shift - 1 of four he does a year for cleaning at the grocery store - and has left me to babysit. I have a feeling they will be rotten as usual. They become irrational, fearful that "noone will feed them or pay attention to them" as soon as husband works an over-night shift. It doesn't matter that I've spent the whole rest of the day with them today. They will in a few hours be bouncing on my head when I try to go to sleep. Mandarin will be poking me in the face with his paw, asking me, "what are you doing?" while I'm trying to snore my little heart away.

Overfilling their bowls will help - husband gets off at 6 in the morning - but it's not something I normally do. It's just to overcompensate with their insecurities.

So Mandarin I suppose is truly a weirdo....

he knows you are the caretaker.

I am the caretaker but it would help my crunchy feelings if he would recognize this at other times instead of JUST when he's pukey... *pouts* LOL
