Well....when I got Ozzie up this morning he had not eaten his food I put in last night which is highly unusual. So...I gave him some fresh food both dry and some soft so he could choose. He nibbled at the dry just a little then walked off
that is just not right for him. A little bit ago he threw up an amount about the size of a half dollar and it was brown looking that looked like his soft food.
I am nervous now and going to watch him closely. He has always ate well and I have not changed anything in his diet????

Oh no, totaly scary. Hope it's just a hairball, he is pretty long haired. My fingers are crossed. Wasn't it you who mentioned earlier you dread going to the vet in this new economy?

Yes..that was me....I jinxed myself....he is being active and acts like he wants to eat. I did not notice any amount off hair when he got sick. When Frankie did that you knew what she was doing......
I did give him some "hairball" stuff that was a thick paste type he licked off my finger. I was using that regular and just got out of the habit *frown*

It probably is hairball. Just because he doesn't bring it up doesn't mean it's not there. In face the fact that it's not coming up, in spite of vomiting, is why he may feel icky. Hairballs can cause a lot of trouble.

I recommend you double dose him with the hairball remedy for a couple days, because that hairball is probably on it's way to the intestines by now, and he'll need help getting it through.

Also a lot of gas seems to accompany these hairball problems (if that's what his problem is) encouraging exercise, and warming up his canned food will help (since I know he won't let you rub/massage his tummy!)

please keep us posted.

Ozzie is not allowed to be sick and you may tell him I said so!:nono:

I am inclined to agree with what Special had to say. Hairballs don't always come up, but they do wreak havoc with regular digestion.

Hugs for Ozzie! And for you too if you need one.

Oh Judy, I hope Ozzie is soon feeling better. Many of us are praying now that vet care is not in the future. Hopefully the suggestions given pep him up.

Nothing has gotten worse and he is eating... just not as much as he had been. His activity level is about the same so I am still watching him but thinking you all are right about the hairball. So, I am giving him his medicine. Right now he is romping up a storm in the other room......music to my ears LOL

Glad to hear he is acting normal - except for amount being eaten. I am thinking maybe he is eating less as he is almost full grown and if he continued eating up a storm he'd become a fat kitty. So his metaboism is needing less food at this point.

I agree that his appetite may taper off now. No more vomiting?

When I had the problems with my two cats I gave the extra dose for three or four days, then dropped to once a day for a couple days, then to every other day, and finally back to twice a week. It's best to go gradually as hairball remedy can have a laxative affect which the body can become dependent on.

After this it might be good to keep him on a twice a week hariball remedy schedule. Maybe three times a week in the worst of the shedding seasons. I don't know if he lets you groom him, but even with daily brushing he's gotta be ingesting a lot of thick heavy fur!

some cats are just more prone to them than others.

I comb daily, but my cats get laxatone twice a week in winter, and more often in shedding seasons (which is April through October) My vet has approved this dosing schedule.

Give the laxatone an hour before a meal, to prevent any interference with nutrient absorption.

Yes....Ozzie seems to be back to normal....playing as usual. No more throwing up and he is eating smaller portions now but it makes sense what you said Diane about the metabolism. Too bad humans can not be that smart hehehehehehe
