I know it isn't a pet, but I wanted to share these because no one else is interested in them. This school, I believe, was built in the 30's. It's been abandoned forever, and now...the city of Houston has just bought the property and they're going to tear it down. So, I trucked down there, ovarian cyst and all, and hiked around the perimeter of the school to get pictures before Houston removed great history from the land.

They have a flagpole out front with a little cement barrier around it where you would say the Pledge of Allegiance every morning.

The pictures are from far away...it was entirely off limits...

However, someone did happen to break in and steal all the copper during the 'copper rush'...

Does anyone know what that big barrel thingy is?

Its a shame no one ever maintained the building. It would take a ton of work to restore it now.

I would love to get inside and just take pictures...close up. Even if just through the windows...I can't imagine what the inside looks like...old chalkboards...maybe even old desks...old lockers!?

I agree...it is such a great looking building, though. I love to visit old historic places like that. I tried to do some Google-ing on the school...but, I guess because it's been empty so long, it's not on the internet... :banghead:

I want to get down to the Houston Library, to see what they've got...but, I am afraid they've got nothing as well...

It is a shame the building wasn't kept up. Seems like all society does is tax us to build new buildings rather then take care of what is already there.

More than likely there weren't any lockers. I don't remember having lockers in my elementary school, and I'm sure this school is the same. You put your books in the desk each day before leaving. And they were still there, just as you left them, the next day. Don't see that being possible in this day and age! LOL

You're probably right...I would still love to get inside, or even see someone else's pictures from inside.

Have you tried calling the county?

Have you tried calling the county?

No...you can't even get a hold of Animal Control in this county, much less someone to give me permission to walk around an old building that could crash and fall down and crush me to death...

That looks awesome, too bad its going to come down.

I love stopping at old abandoned houses and trekking through them. Just imagine what you could learn if those walls could talk.

Gosh...I would love to know...or have that ability!
