any one know why farmers keep and raise llama's I know they can be real darlings, but they are very dirty and spit?
are they raised for meat, or are they just fun to have around, and their wooly hair? Just curious about that.

how would this be bait? that would be really silly, as I am really curious. My son's ex girl friends family ended up having to take care of one a few years ago on rented property, and getting around that llamma proved interesting for my son, and he sometimes told me about it spitting and of course how to pet, and if yoiu even dared. so that single animal that they were forced to feed and care for everyday has driven curiosity for me.
its sort of like, why do some unusual but yes, why do some farmers keep ostriches?
Education and curiosity is what drives me.

My landlord has a llama. He's a sheep farmer. he says the llama (it's male) "mothers" the lambs, and has even actually alerted him to ewes having trouble dropping their lambs, on occasion. He loves his llama!

It would be really silly, but my friends know I like really silly. :D Else why would I have ended up being called the Llamalady? But I thought maybe I was just being baited in a fun way to enjoy in some fun thread. I didn't for one moment think it might be out of malice. :D
I went to the alpaca farm in the fall. The lady keeps them as pets. (They all poop in one spot which must be awesome for clean up as opposed to horses.) She says they are more even-tempered than llamas but they are very closely related. She takes their wool and makes it into yarn which she in turn sells. She has a fabulous little gift shop.
The alpaca are shy but very serene. Just being around them made me feel very zen, very at peace with the world. She said they are her friends and they help her to really put life into perspective.
I hope this helps you with your perspective.
