View Full Version : Olivia
My cat Olivia is 4 years old. Two years ago she was diagnosed with asthma and the vet put her on Predisone. She was on it for a few weeks and then she was fine until now. She started coughing again every few minutes. I took her back to the vet and she put her on Predisone again. It's been a week now and she is fine. No coughing and her energy leven is back again. The only problem with the Predisone is that is makes her really hungry. She is always eating wihich leads to my second problem. She weighed 18 pounds last week. She has a small frame and she is a roly poly. The vet said I should give her a light dry food for overweight cats. I have 11 cats and a few of them are very young. I don't know if it's safe to feed these young cats diet food. The vet says it's better for the young cats to eat the light diet than keep on putting down regular food. I don't know what to do. It's impossible to seperate them at feeding time. Anybody have any ideas what I should be doing or what I could be doing.

Will she be on the preds just for a few weeks again? Is it possible to seperate her from the others just while she's on the course of preds? The diet food is going to have fewer calories, and the young cats especially will need them!
Edit: When I say seperate, I mean completely, in a spare room or bathroom.
No unfortunalty I can't seperate them. I am in an apartment and I really don't have the space. Olivia doesn't like canned food which is good because all of my other cats do. This is why the vet says it's okay to give all of the cats light dry foods because they are getting their calories from the canned food. I don't know how long she is going to be on Pred, but she is now on the second week. Hopefully it's just be another week

If the other cats are having wet food too, there's no harm in them eating the diet dry.

My suggestion was going to be the same as Emily's - separate Olivia for feeding time. It would seem to me that if the other cats get canned food, light dry cat food should be ok as a supplement for them too.
Thank you guys for your input. That's what the vet said also. I just waned another opinion.
